Housekeeping Tips for a Happy and Safe Club!

Important Housekeeping Tips for a Happy and Safe Club

First Aid & Emergency Equipment

  • Defibrillator (used for Cardiac Arrest): Located in a bright yellow bag behind the front door on the wall on the left. Switch on the defibrillator for easy-to-follow instructions, while someone calls 999 and administers CPR
  • First Aid Kit: Opposite the front door on the small table. Use gloves if dealing with blood. Report incidents in the accident book. If used, email Lawrence to replenish supplies

Closing and Alarming the Clubhouse
Before Leaving:

  • Shut the court gates – this prevents animals damaging the nets
  • Pull down shutters – use the pole behind the front door to operate the shutters. They do not need to be locked
  • Turn off lights, including floodlights, kitchen & lounge
  • Set the alarm (instructions here)
  • Lock the door and exit through the front door only

Ensure remaining players are members who know how to lock up. If they are non-members, please ask them to leave and lock up as usual and notify Mary/Lawrence

Floodlights

  • Save electricity at the Club: Turn off the floodlights in the clubhouse after use, even if they have already automatically turned off at 22:00 (this prevents them turning back on again in the morning) (click here to see where switches need to be)

Booking and Cancelling Courts

  • Book in Advance: Always pre-book courts and please cancel if not needed to allow others to use them. This is particularly important in the busy summer months
  • Max Time on Court: Courts can be booked for up to 1.5 hours, except for tournament matches which can be booked for 2 hours

Court Etiquette

  • Avoid Distracting Players: Don’t walk through gates on courts 5&6 during matches. Use alternative paths for courts 7&8
  • Delay walking past courts until a game point is over

Guests

  • Add guests to bookings and pay the £5/hour fee via the booking site. If adding a guest later, update the booking or pay the fee to our account. New account details are:

Cocks and Hens, Metro Bank, Sort code: 23-05-80, Account number: 53161456

 Tennis Balls

  • Collect & Recycle: Collect balls that go beyond the fencing and place unwanted balls in the black bin by the clubhouse
  • Use non-pressurized balls for sustainability
  • Need Balls? Use balls from the box under the clubhouse table or buy used match balls for £1.50 from the box on the bar area or new ones from Elliott at Drive Volley. Do not use coaches’ balls

Personal Belongings

  • Ensure you take all your belongings off the court. Lost property items are stored in the clubhouse and disposed of after 3 months

Club Sessions

  • Saturday Sessions: 14:00-16:00, Spring/Summer, 13:30-15:30, Autumn/Winter
  • Extra Club Sessions: Bank Holidays, including 27 Aug, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
  • Where possible, extra courts will be booked for busy Wednesday sessions (19:00-21:00)

Footwear

  • Check Grip: Ensure your tennis shoes have sufficient grip, especially for grass courts
  • Grass court shoes with pimples are recommended for playing on the grass and astro (artificial grass) courts
  • Omni tennis shoes have pimples on half the sole and are ideal for astro courts and can be used on hard courts as well

Rubbish & Recycling

  • Take Home: Where possible, please take your rubbish and recycling home
  • Our bins are not emptied by the Council, so we rely on kind volunteers to sort recycling and take home and/or take recycling and rubbish to the rugby club

Access Road

  • Drive slowly to limit damage and ensure safety for all users of the access road
  • Take special care going around the corner as it is a blind spot and narrow

Bikes

  • Use the racks provided. Do not park your bike by the clubhouse or courts. Please lock and please note these are left at your own risk

Kitchen & Lounge Area

  • Help yourself to free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate on the worktop opposite the kettle
  • Milk is available only from the members’ fridge (if any is in there) not from the coaches’ fridge
  • Load and unload the dishwasher
  • Keep the area clean and tidy. Use provided cleaning supplies for spills (vacuum, brush, mop, yellow wet floor signs are in the cleaning cupboard, second door on the right towards the changing rooms). Spare loo rolls and sanitary bags are located there too
