Profile of Martin Ellacott
My name is Martin Ellacott and I’m a LTA level 2 accredited tennis coach and a wheelchair tennis coach. I’m also a level 3 fitness instructor.
I started playing tennis quite late in my sporting life. Before tennis I participated in a lot of sports at a good standard including athletics, football, basketball and swimming.
However my main sport was cycling and for many years I represented the Royal Air Force Team in all forms of competition –time trialling, road racing and track racing in the velodrome. I now cycle with PRONTO cycling club in Frome.
From competing at cycling and my knowledge of other sports and training methods I am able to bring an extra dimension to my coaching. I know what it takes to get to a higher level of sporting achievement and, as a qualified fitness instructor, I can assess players abilities and assist in developing fitness, speed and coordination. In tennis coaching terms I can help players improve their ABCs and these are key to becoming successful at tennis.
My coaching sessions are progressive so players learn skills and gain confidence each week. I also make sure tennis is fun and tailored to players needs and abilities.
