Junior tennis rackets – picking the right size for your child
The following chart outlines the approximate racket length that is appropriate for children of a certain age and height. A quick rule of thumb is that racket should not touch the ground when held by the child’s side.
The simplest method for choosing the correct racket size for children that are not yet ready to use a full-sized racket is to pick a racket based on age. There will be several equipment changes needed for a few years since children grow quickly at this age.
An alternative method for choosing the correct racket size for children is to have your child stand upright. Place the tennis racket next to their side with the head resting on the ground and the racket handle pointing upwards. Next, have your child place the palm of their hand on the end of the tennis racket handle like a cane. If your child’s arm is comfortably extended and resting on the butt cap of the tennis racket, then you’ve likely found the right length. On the other hand, if you child has to bend their arm to comfortably rest their hand on the handle or their hand doesn’t reach the handle, then you’ll probably want to try another size.
