Club Internal League Kicks Off

Devizes Tennis Club Internl League

After the cancellation of the Summer competitive league, the club decided to run its own league for members to enter.  Following the clubs health and safety protocols in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, players from all levels and teams of the club were welcome to play, and we received a good response to come up with teams in mixed, mens and ladies categories.

Each team is made up of several players from accross the club levels of play.  They are drawn together and paired up in different combinations so that the matches will be played on a roughly equal footing, and provide good competitive games for everyone.

The mixed league started on Monday 22nd June, with 4 out of the 5 teams playing.  There were some very close matches, all played in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere.  The mens league followed on the Wednesday, all 4 teams in play, and once again there were some long, epic matches confirming the closeness between all teams.  Both nights were followed afterwards by enjoyable, socially distanced gatherings between teams to reflect on the evenings tennis.

The ladies league kicks off this evening (Thursday) with all 4 teams playing.  If the league follows the same way and the mixed and mens have started it should be a very enjoyable several weeks of match tennis ahead for members to make up for the loss of the county league that we enter each year.
