About the Club

History

Formed in 1966, Etwall Tennis Club is based at Etwall Leisure Centre, Etwall. We are a small, friendly club, who believe that tennis is a sport to be enjoyed by all in a sociable environment.

Club Sessions

Club sessions give everyone a chance to play tennis in a fun, friendly, non-competitive environment (well, not that competitive anyway ...!)

The outdoor tennis season runs from mid April to mid September.

During this time, we have 4 club sessions each week as follows:

  • Mon*, Wed & Fri:    6:30-8.30pm                      *Bank Holidays 2pm - 4pm
  • Sat:                            2:00-4:00pm                      All Year (weather Permitting)

We predominantly play doubles tennis, but there is no need to bring a partner, since all members are mixed in together. We try to ensure players are matched with others of similar ability, whatever their standard and try to give people the choice of mixed, mens’ or ladies’ doubles where possible.

All you have to do is turn up, with no need to book in advance. Play as long as you like or until ithe end of session.

The Saturday afternoon sessions continue throughout the winter for those players who wish to brave the elements.

League Tennis

The club runs mens, ladies and mixed doubles teams in the Burton Area League for those interested in playing to a more competitive standard.

Matches are also a doubles format with two pairs playing two sets against each other (with a tie-break decider if it is one-set all).

Generally home matches are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the summer and away matches can be on any weekday evening.

Social Events

We also organise various social events and club tournaments,

Wimbledon

Members are encouraged to opt into LTA Advantage Membership which is free of charge.   This then gives them a direct opt-in opportunity for the Wimbledon ballot.
