Tennis Talk March 2020

We have recently been audited by the LTA and inspected by Sefton Council. We are delighted to inform you that the LTA have reviewed our club and we have attained the six standards as laid out in the LTA requirement regulations.

This criteria covered a multitude of benchmarks including safeguarding, diversity and GDPR. In addition, Sefton Council have given us a 5 star rating for our premises which include the changing rooms and our kitchen.

These top ratings are not achieved by chance, but by the hard work of our club volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure that the members enjoy these benefits and facilities. Our grateful thanks to all those involved.

Southport and District League Match Practice nights;
Please note that practice nights will start week commencing 16.03.20.
Monday nights from 7 till 9pm will be 1st and 2nd team practice and Wednesday nights will be 3rd and 4th team, again 7 till 9pm. This will give us 6 sessions prior to the start of the season.
Please note that all participants will need to pay a £2 per session weekly fee to cover associated costs.
Your team captains; Phil Gray, Rob Dodd, Mark Picton, and Gill McGibbon will make contact over the forthcoming weeks.
If you would like further information regarding the above, please feel free to call or text me.

Thanks and good luck to all involved.

Opening Season Tournament
For the start of the 2020 tennis season, the Club is running a Handicap Tournament from 25 April to 16/17 May, with Finals Day to coincide with Captain's Invitation. It will be a doubles event (men's, ladies' and mixed). The exact format will depend on the number of entries. Keep checking the club noticeboards and social media for further information and entry dates.

The start of the tournament coincides with the Opening Season Social Quiz Night on 25 April. Save the day/night for a great evening of entertainment! More details to follow.

Alongside some essential maintenance work, we have also filled in the pot holes in the car park, removed the rickety summer house and increased the paved area. This will increase the viewing options, giving members and visitors a better view of club matches and tournament games. Thank you for bearing with us while this work has been addressed and we hope you enjoy these improved facilities.

The incessant rainfall has meant that the water table is at an all time high and affecting the roads and paths of Formby. Despite our best efforts to help with the drainage on the car park and our walkways, we cannot compete with the force of nature - the water has nowhere to go. No doubt a hosepipe ban is just around the corner.

A reminder that there is another chance to play club tennis along with the normal Tuesday clubnight. This extra opportunity to get together and play socially will be a simple 'round robin' format which will allow all standards to mix in together.
Play is on Saturdays from 3pm and runs through until 5.30pm. If you can't make it at 3, don't worry, just come down when you can. The playing format will allow any number to join in at any time, after all its social tennis, so no time keeping, no trophies, just fun tennis with a little competitive edge.
There is an old WhatsApp group in existence which will tag onto this. A lot are already listed but if you're not please text Tim on 07767 797604, so he can add you on. Remember, all standards and ages welcome.

Applications for Wimbledon tickets are now available for downloading on the Website, for collection from inside the Clubhouse or on request from Debbie (debbie.johnston1@btinternet.com).

Please can all members turn off the floodlights after use. Because of the vagaries of the system, the lights magically turn themselves back on at 3pm if you don't manually turn them off. Just because they automatically go off at 10pm does not mean they are switched off! We should also add that you need to turn both switches on for the lights to come on!
