Tennis Talk May

We hope you are all enjoying the return to tennis and we can now offer you the extra facility of the bar on Tuesday club nights. To comply with Covid regulations and for your own safety, please order and pay by card at the bar. Your drinks will be brought out to you by our hard working bar staff.

The Southport and District League matches start w/c 3rd May and expectations are running high for all our teams. We wish you the very best of luck and hope we can enjoy success at all levels.

As specified for the last several months, spectating is not allowed and only one supervising parent/guardian is allowed per player. All members are asked to observe current guidelines regarding social distancing etc. Please use the sanitiser stations and observe the one way system. Members wishing to play must book a court in advance through the online booking system which is open 8 days before play. Please remain aware of hygiene during the current pandemic conditions and avoid touching your face while playing.

A new system for used match balls:

Availability of Tennis Balls: League matches are due to start in May. Used match balls will be left in a rack to be kept underneath the kitchen hatch. Members are asked to use these balls if they wish, and return them at the end of play for others to use. Once they are gone, they are gone. The Club has tried various ways of disposing of used match balls (selling, recycling etc). This way, while team players benefit from new balls, general club members can benefit from 'once used balls' free of charge when they are available.

If anyone has a better solution please let us know!

Andrew Hewitt has very kindly offered to hold an 'Italian Tennis Event' on Saturday 26th June, (if the covid restrictions have been lifted and the weather allows us.) This will be a 2pm start using all six courts with six teams of three players, captains will be seeded. Each team will play each other for seven games with there being the dreaded dodgy call and sudden death deuce! This is likely to run until just before 5pm.

Then in the evening at 7.30pm we will all meet up for an Italian meal cooked by my wife Kathy followed by awards for the tennis and plenty of fun and games afterwards. I will be putting it out on various WhatsApp groups so please put your names down quickly so as not to miss out!

The plan is for around 36 players to play and around 40 to dine.

The costs will be:- £6 for Tennis only

                                          £8 for Meal only

                                          £10 for both.

Please call Andrew on 07534921622 or reply to his WhatsApps.

Friendlies, organised by Andrew Hewitt, have been arranged with the Friday matches all starting at 6.30pm on the following dates:

7th May, 28th May, 11th June, 2nd July, 16th July and 6th Aug

You will be notified on the WhatsApp groups for each session as soon as possible.

If you are new to our club or new to social tennis, please contact Margaret on 831050 or Andrew on 07534 - 921622. Social tennis is exactly what it says on the tin  and it is open to anyone of any ability. The games are organised to reflect your standard so please don't worry if you think you are not good enough - you are! Likewise, we have first and second teamers playing on different courts so it is a real mix and you will be graded accordingly. The standard may differ but the enjoyment is universal. Do join us!

Junior Tennis

The latest information from the LTA on organized group activities permits, as before, a maximize group size of fifteen for children. We will run the juniors with 15 in the group, in the same way that we did last year.

The Junior Whatsapp group works very well and enables the club to register and have a record of the names of all the attendees.  The charge of £3 per session will remain the same as last year.

The Junior clubnight dates are as follows:

Start Date  -  Friday    April 9th   4.30PM to 6PM

End Date   -   Friday    Sept 24th
