Kiwi Doubles Competition

This year, we are running a doubles tournament with a twist or two – a  Kiwi  Competition.

It's a great way to play more tennis, meet more tennis players - and develop your game.

You do not have to play with the same partner throughout the competition as the format allows for mixed doubles, mens only doubles, ladies only doubles - and even  two ladies against two men - or indeed three ladies against one man (or three men against one lady)!!!

We hope that the flexibility will encourage you to play more and allow you to meet new players. You can play as much or as little as you like –  but remember, points means prizes!

The competition will be points based, with individualised scores.

If you are interested in joining,  please contact Carol at gregoryfieldstc@gmail.com  and please provide your mobile number.

We will set up a Whatsapp group for all players, to facilitate organising matches. If anyone is new to the club and shy about using  Whatsapp, please contact Carol, at carolhookham@gmail.com , who will organise a kick off game for you.  All abilities welcome.

The competition rules are set out below, but if you have any queries please get in touch.

Competition Rules:

  Pairings:

  • Pairings can be any combination at all – the choice is yours
  • There is no limit to the number of times you can play with a partner or against an opponent.
  • You should however try to avoid  playing with only one partner as this is against the social spirit of the competition.
  • And similarly, for those of you who are stronger players, please try to mix the ability of your partners throughout the competition.

   Play:

  • Matches will be 2 sets
  • A tie break will be reached at 5 all. Tie breaks must be won by 2 clear points.
  • Sudden death deuce applies. If playing mixed doubles, men will serve to men, and women to women.
  • Results to be reported via the Kiwi Competition Whatsapp group or to carolhookham@gmail.com. The table will be updated regularly and will be available in the clubhouse and on the club website.

    Logistics:

  • The competition will begin in May 2023. Given the flexibility of the format, players can join the competition at any point throughout the season to enjoy competitive play.
  • This is a new format so participation will be reviewed regularly. An initial end date will be set for the end June, but if the competition is running successfully, it will continue until the end of September.
  • Please provide your own balls
  • Don’t forget to book your courts via the website
  • Light tokens are available in the club house, if required. They are free but please make sure no tokens are used after 8.30pm as lights must be off by 9pm.
  • Please note matches can only be played on club nights (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) IF  court space is available - players attending club sessions take priority.

     Points:

Scores will be individualised, and a prize awarded to the highest scoring man and lady.

  • Scores are awarded to each individual
  • 12 points awarded for a win (2 sets won)
  • 6 points awarded for a draw (1 set each)
  • Losing team awarded points equal to their best scoring set (e.g. Lost 3-6, 4-6 – would be awarded 4 points)
  • The format will favour those who play more, in terms of winning the competition, but the spirit is friendly competition, and allows those with less free time to still enjoy competitive play without the need to complete a set number of games. We will incorporate an average score per game into the table for people to track their performance.

We look forward to playing with as many of you as possible over the coming months.
