2022 Finals Day
Sun, 04 Sep 2022 00:00
The 2022 Finals day was run on Saturday 3rd September and spectators saw some great matches, which, luckily were only temporarily threatened by rain, but all matches were completed without serious delay. The sun even came out towards the end.
Many thanks to Margaret Wilson for organising the Championships and for supplying refreshments on the day.
The first matches were the Men's Singles and Kennedy Cup.
In the men's singles, our new member Andy Cook put up an impressive performance against Gary McCarron who ran practically every ball down and there were close games, despite the score. Andy powered himself to a 6-0, 6-4 victory with Gary making a fighting come back in the second set.

In the Kennedy Cup, Jim Robins & Michael Borchart had a lengthy tussle with Jim Green & Michael Mingos with long rallies and very close games, however, Jim R & Michael B managed to win by 6-4, 6-3. However, the match lasted nearly two hours! Below is a picture of Jim & Mike v Jim & Mike and Jim R & Michael Borchart receiving their winners trophy!
The next match was the Ladies Doubles which was probably the match of the day.
This saw Lucinda Keates & Alison Green against Jacky Keates & Sarah Rydings.
This match was an extremely close tussle with the momementum going back and forth. Lucinda & Alison won the first set 6-3, but Jacky & Sarah made a great come back by taking the second set 7-5 to take the match to a 10 point match tie break. The match tie break was a nail biter and was level up to 7 all, but Lucinda & Alison managed to get the win by taking the tie break by 10 points to 7. Well played ladies.

The following match was the Men's Doubles between Gary Thompson & Jim Green who had his second final of the day and Rob O'Loughlin & David Wybron.
This too was a close match, but Gary Thompson was the man of the match and helped steer Gary & Jim to a 6-0, 6-3 win. Onlookers thought the score was closer than it was and both sides had some impressive rallies.

The final match played on the day was the Mixed Doubles between Andy Cook and Sarah Rydings, both playing in their second match of the day and Lucinda Keates and Jim Robins, also in their second match of the day.
This was a good match to watch with some long ralies, but Andy & Sarah proved too strong and stady for Lucinda & Jim and won 6-3, 6-2.
