Chairman's Newsletter

Dear members & friends,

We are glad to see that the weather is warming up at last and the new season has started and we hope that we shall have ‘normal’ activities now that we are over the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, so fingers crossed for the rest of the year. We still however all need to follow all the latest precautions advised on the government web site.

There has been plenty happening recently, so here is an update.

Our three main courts have been re laid and we plan to get them painted during the week commencing 25th April and they should be ready for play on Monday 2nd May, weather permitting.

The new courts are a little higher due to the new tarmac layer and this seems to have avoided them getting flooded as experienced in previous winters.

The conifers have had their annual trim and some trees were removed behind court 1. This was done to provide more light & air during winter months to try avoid icing & frost during the winter. We shall see how this experiment works and may remove more trees next year.

Unfortunately, during the recent gales the fencing on the playing field side of the Mini Courts was blown over, so we are getting this repaired and getting all the fencing strengthened to try and stop this happening again.

We are planning a full schedule of activities this year which includes:

  • ADULTS:  Sunday 1st May 9.00-11.00 Fun Mixed Tournament with refreshments
  • MINIS: TEAM CHALLENGE EVENT – Saturday 21st May 2.30pm
  • FAMILIES:  A family sports activity afternoon – Saturday 25th June, 4-6pm including refreshments for all.
  • CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - Minis & Juniors Club Championships - weekend  9th & 10th July
  • CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - Adults -  Finals Day Saturday 3rd September
  • MINIS & JUNIOR CLUB NIGHT (Fridays Play & Pizza) from 10th September
  • AGM – Tuesday 22nd November 7.30pm in Pavilion
  • CHRISTMAS PARTY: Saturday 3rd December at Ellesborough Golf Club

Full details will be posted on the website in advance of the events.

We like to keep the standard of our facilities up to scratch and we have regular working parties to do any needed maintenance & tidying up. We have pencilled in Thursday 7th April, so please keep an eye out for announcements.

We run Men’s, Women’s & Mixed teams in the local leagues and are pleased to see the new team players and would encourage anyone who wanted to play in the teams to get in touch (haddenhamtennisclub@hotmail.com ). There are regular men’s women’s and mixed social and organised sessions for club members. Full details of organisers are on the website, using this link  Organised Club Social Sessions so do have a look if these would be of interest.

Our club traditionally has a focus on family and junior membership and we are delighted to have a full coaching programme for the summer term. Full details can be found by following this link Minis/Juniors/Adults/Seniors Coaching - Summer Term

Finally we are looking for new members to join our Committee, so please do not be shy in coming forward!

Looking forward to seeing new and existing members down at the club.

Best wishes
