Another evening of mixed fortunes....

Mens' First Team

This year the Mens' first team has a surplus of players and thus squad rotation has been adopted to ensure that each member gets a suitable number of matches in the first division. This week Hylton Idle replaced Andy Lucas to partner Barry Dennahy and Rohan Duffin and Oliver Barker continued their partnership.

The Liversedge team on their visit to Marsden had the privliege to play against Dan Sinclair, who played on the ITF tour as a junior and young adult. Dan, teaming up with Richard Noble ably defeated both pairs that Liversedge fielded - first defeating the partnership of Duffin and Barker 6-2 6-0 followed by Idle and Dennahy 6-1 6-0.

As with new parternships Dennahy and Idle needed a little time to gel which led to a 6-4 6-3 loss against the second pair of Marsden (Foster and Harley). The Marsden pair however could not repeat their success later in the evening losing out 3-6 1-6 to the Liversedge first pair.

Once again, the Liversedge team scores one point for each of the sets it wins, picking up two points on the night. There have been times recently where teams towards the bottom of the league have not won a single point so this is still progresss.

Result: Marsden A 6 Liversedge A 2

Mens' Second Team

The second team had a home fixture against Cleckheaton.

Andy Lucas stepped in to play with David Watson and the pair quickly found their feet, defeating the first pair of the opponents 6-0 6-0 in around half an hour of play. When the first pair had finished the score on the second court was 3-4 in the first set.

The second pair of Richard Ellis (Captain) and Helmut Maack had a fantastic match with the second pair with lots of skill and long rallies on display. After a hard fought ninety minutes the  Liversedge pair defeated their opponents 7-6 (9-7 in the tiebreak) 6-4.

The second rubbers were a substantially easier affair with Lucas and Watson prevailing 6-2 6-0 and Ellis and Maack winning 6-3 6-2 before the light faded.

Cleckheaton were second in the division moving into this fixture, so this victory cements the Liversedge team as heavy favourites to pick up the silverware at the end of the season.
