2019

Men's team performance

The men's section entered a total of four teams, two in the Huddersfield league and two in the Calderdale league.

The two teams in the Huddersfield league both played in the second division in 2019 after the respective relegation and promotion of the two teams in 2018. Given the size of the Club it is a great achievement that both teams are in the top two, of now five divisions.

The aim for the first team was to secure promotion back to the top division whereas the aim for the second team was to allow the team to find its natural level. The personnel in both teams has changed over the past two years and with some notable absentees the strength of the second team is less than previous. The practical decision was made not to artificially keep the second team in the second division but let the course of results take effect.

The second team managed one draw and thirteen losses to amass one point and be relegated into the third division. This is currently deemed a more appropriate standard for this team.

The first team, bolstered by the return of Darren Bakes halfway through the season, enjoyed a highly successful season securing eleven wins, one draw and only two losses (both when half the first team were away). This may not seem a dominant performance however the team won 125 sets to the loss of 56 for a set difference of 69. No other team in the division had a set difference of more than forty and the first team secured excellent 11‑1 and 10‑2 wins against the teams finishing second and third in the division. The team will play first division tennis in 2020.

The Calderdale teams play in division one and four respectively after in 2018 the second team was demoted to the bottom division for failing to raise a team on five separate occasions. I am pleased to say that the previous problems of not fielding teams did not reoccur and the fact that the team is playing in the fourth division allows for social members and juniors to gain match experience in an appropriate environment. The second team, ably captained by Richard Ellis, amassed two wins, five draws and five losses to secure 42.5 points and finish fifth out of seven teams. Hopefully in 2020 this team can continue to gain experience.

The men's first team struggled substantially through the first half of the year with Andy Lucas and Barry Dennahy absent. There was an upturn in results in the second half of the year however with half a dozen matches to go both Liversedge and Cragg Vale were adrift of the other eight teams with two to be relegated. In the last two weeks of the campaign the team amassed two wins and two draws, including a 5 ‑5 draw away at Queens B on the last night of the season. The final results saw Liversedge with four wins, five draws and nine losses to amass sixty six points and finish eighth, avoiding relegation by two points. The team will continue to play first division tennis in 2020.

Women's team performance

Once again the women's section entered one team in the Calderdale League this year, playing in the second of four divisions.

This year, the ladies bettered their fourth place result from 2018 by winning the division and will play division one tennis in 2019. Congratulations to all team members and team captain Sarah Lucas. The four team members enjoyed an evening collecting the trophy.
