Llantwit Tennis Club gets off to a winning start

After rain delayed the start of Llantwit Major Tennis Club’s resurgence into competitive tennis, last weekend LMTC visited Garw Valley TC to play their first match in over 10 years and also recorded their first win!

Acting team captain Roger Williams travelled to face their opponents in the Valleys alongside Dawn Howels, Vicki McNally and Neil Davies. The match was an incredibly close affair with the final result being decided by a single set. The first round of matches saw LMTC first pair Dawn and Roger play their opposite number in what turned out to be the match that decided the tie. Garw Valley edged the match winning in a 3rd set tiebreak 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Second pair Vicki and Neil also had a close but successful first match against their opposite number winning in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. Confidence was clearly high for the Garw Valley first pair as they cruised to a more comfortable victory of 6-3, 6-2 over Vicki and Neil. Llantwit first pair Dawn and Roger took the final rubber in another close straight sets win 6-4, 6-4 which also sealed the overall win in the tie thanks to that crucial set in the first round.

This Saturday at 1:30pm LMTC will face Barry Community Tennis Club which was the match that was rescheduled due to rain in September. During the match only one court will be available for the regular social tennis that takes place each week on a Saturday from 2pm. Social tennis on a Friday from 5:30pm will continue each week until the clocks change. The club welcomes any spectators for the match and also any new players looking to take up tennis.
