Health and Safety Policy Statement

MDTC recognises the importance of health safety and welfare at the club and its facilities

The Committee, who are all unpaid volunteers, is responsible for ensuring high health and safety standards

The Committee aims to provide a safe environment for all those using the club, its facilities and its equipment

 

Club Members have a duty to:

Take reasonable care for your own health & safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or not do

Co-operate with the club on health & safety issues

Correctly use all equipment provided by the club

Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety & welfare

Ensure that any guests signed in adhere to the same duties as members

Health & Safety Policy

General Policy:

In compliance with the requirements detailed under the Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1992 and the Health & Safety at Works Act 1974, Market Drayton Tennis Club will, as far as is reasonably practicable, safeguard the health. safety and welfare of all personnel using or visiting the Club, grounds and facilities.

Therefore, our policy is to provide and maintain safe and healthy playing and working conditions, equipment and systems for members, guests, visitors and those doing work for or on behalf of the club. We also accept our responsibility for the health and safety of other people who may be affected by our activities.

This policy should be read in conjunction with the 'Club Rules'

The allocation of duties for safety matters and the arrangements to implement the policy are set out below.

The policy will be kept up to date and reviewed as required.

 

MDTC Commitment to Health & Safety

The club is committed to:

Assessing and providing adequate control of the health & safety risks arising from its activities

Consulting with its workers and users on matters affecting their health & safety

Providing and maintaining safe equipment for use in pursuance of club activities

Providing information, instruction and supervision for workers and users where applicable

Ensuring all workers and users are competent to do their tasks and to give them adequate training

Providing / ensuring that suitable and sufficient Personal Protective Equipment is used where required

Maintaining a safe and healthy operating environment

Reviewing and revising this policy at regular intervals.

 

Responsibilities:

The Committee are responsible for ensuring that:

The Club's Health & Safety Policy is implemented and that, as or as reasonably practical, a safe playing spectating and working environment exists

The activities carried out are conducted in such a manner as to minimise the risk to health and safety

In accordance with Section 7 of the Act all workers, users and visitors have an obligation to take reasonable care for the health & safety of themselves and other persons who may be affected by their actions and co-operate with the Club to enable any such duty to be complied with.

 

All persons must:

Observe all safety and club rules

Abide by the instructions issued in the interests of minimising risks to health and safety

Report any hazardous situation to a member of the committee

Co-operate in suggesting to the Club Secretary any improvements that could minimise risks to health and safety

Day to day responsibility for the implementation of the policy belongs to all members of the Committee

 

Communicating the Health & Safety Policy:

Players, Committee members & Visitors will be provided with appropriate information on health & safety risks via the Health & Safety Policy and general Club Rules, which will be displayed in a prominent place.

 

General Health & Safety Procedures

 

Fire

In the event of discovering a fire in the clubhouse or immediate vicinity:

Ensure you make people in the clubhouse, on court and the surrounding areas aware and make sure they leave immediately and tell them to report to the fire assembly point — the car park qates

Call the Fire Brigade - ring 999

Attack the fire if possible, using equipment provided - but do not take risks

Report to the fire assembly point, wait for the fire brigade and direct them accordingly – ensure the gate into Greenfields is open

Call any committee member

 

Injuries & Accidents

Team Captains / Coaches should ensure a working mobile phone is available at every training / coaching session / match

First Aid - there is a first aid box in the kitchen wall cupboard. This is stocked regularly but if you notice something missing or items out of date or items that may be useful but are not included in the kit, please advise Vicki Lightfoot in the first instance or any other committee member if you cannot get hold of Vicki

All accidents must be logged into the Accident Book which is kept in the kitchen wall cupboard

Players should seek medical advice after an injury or accident

Ensure that vehicles are parked so that ambulance access is readily available to home pitches & training facilities

Players should not be picked up and carried by club personnel unless they are in immediate danger

Heavy or awkwardly shaped items to be carried by two or more persons

All equipment & playing areas should be subject to visual inspection from time to time

Faulty equipment must be labelled and removed from use until repaired / replaced

All faults to be reported

 

Floodlighting

No one is allowed to climb up the floodlight posts, appropriate machinery should always be used to gain access to the lights

 

Use Of Machinery

Equipment only to be used by operators with appropriate experience relating to the equipment being used — unless the operator is being taught how to use the equipment under supervision

Operator to ensure all safety guards and safety features are in position and working properly

Ensure machinery / grass mowers are used strictly in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction manual

Any faults to be reported immediately & faulty equipment labelled and removed from use until repair or replacement

All ground equipment (tractors, mowers etc) to be stored in a dedicated and secure building

 

Lone Workers & Players

There are occasions when certain club volunteers work alone on the club premises. The danger of them being taken ill or suffering an accident whilst alone is an additional hazard that has been considered.

The lone worker/player is to carry a mobile phone and is also to ensure that the battery is fully charged

A lone player should inform a relative or friend of their court booking time and a committee member phone number. The committee member should be called if the lone player hasn’t been heard from within a selected time

The lone worker to phone a committee member when they are starting work and when they finish

The designated committee member to check if nothing has been heard from them within a selected time

Consideration to be given as to whether the task being conducted is suitable for a lone worker and whether that person undertaking the task is suited to work alone

 

Reporting Accidents

It is the Club’s policy that all accidents which conform to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR 2013) are reported in the accident record book, which is in the kitchen wall cupboard, the Club will also be responsible for informing the Local Environmental Health where necessary.

 

Club House

The club will ensure that:

The building and other structures are kept in a good and safe state of repair and suitable for purpose

That a regular maintenance inspection programme is undertaken

AIl emergency exits are clearly signed

The Club is conscious that as from the 1st October 2006, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places the responsibility for maintaining premises safe from fire upon the owner

The Club will regularly monitor and review all health & safety practices

 

Contractors

Contractors will be assessed against their ability to undertake specified tasks, together with confirmation that their insurance cover protects the club in respect of the duties to be undertaken

 

Junior Members

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult whilst using the tennis courts, clubhouse and surrounding facilities.

 

Violence / Threats / Abuse

Market Drayton Tennis Club will treat seriously any allegation of improper conduct
