Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching

Can anyone book coaching?
Yes -  all the different coaching opportunities are open to everyone (adults, children, members and non-members).

How many people can join a group coaching session?
Under the recent guidelines Welsh Government Sports Courts can have a maximum of 30 participants. However, to be on the safe side the coaches are generally working on having a maximum of 12 players over 3 courts (occasionally  this rises to 16 players).

How do I book Group Coaching or Private Lessons
Book and pay for coaching with a Martyn Lewis Tennis coach using the calendars on our Adults and Juniors Pages. Please note that for Adult group coaching sessions places are limited to 12 (or sometimes 16) players. All private lessons are booked via the individual Coach. If you ever have to cancel a reserved place please remember to let your coach know, so that someone else can have it.

How much does coaching cost?
The price of coaching varies according to the venue. At Bangor Tennis Club (for example) group coaching sessions cost just £8. For private lesssons, the coaches charge according to their qualification level. Rates may vary at different venues, but at Bangor Tennis Club a private lesson with Martyn will cost £27 (for members) or £32 (for non-members) and with Rob a private lesson will cost £19 (for members) or £24 (for non-members).

Which standard/level of coaching would be right for me?
You can find out more information about player ability levels and course types here, but briefly ...
Adult Beginner / Improver Sessions are for those who can hit the basic shots and for those that are returning to tennis.
Adult Intermediate Sessions are for regular players who have attended before and for those who have a good knowledge of the game and are capable of playing doubles.
Adult Advanced Sessions are for more experienced players and will focus on drills and tactics to win!
Junior and Mini Tennis Sessions are organised by age group and colour coded. These sessions focus on a range of ativities, skills and games covering basic agility, balance and co-ordination. The main priority is always to have FUN!

Which coach would be best for me?
If you are unsure which coach would suit you best, or if you have a special requirement or preference feel free to ask either the coaches or clubs directly.

What is the cancellation policy?
The coaches require 24 hours notice of any cancellation. They will also give 24 hours hours notice should they need to cancel a session. However, see below re. bad weather.

What happens on rainy days?
In Bangor, when the indoor courts at the Brailsford Centre are open (hopepfully they will be opening up again for us soon) we try and move  our lessons there. However, if a court in The Dome there is not available or or at our other venues where we don't have a back-up option, sessions will be cancelled on the morning and the bookings rolled on to another suitable date.

And what happens if it might rain?
Basically, if there is an element of doubt the coaches will make a judgement call 1 hour before the session is due to commence. If in doubt, call the coach for confirmation.  See below for Rob's number.
