1. Can guests play?

Answer: Yes, guests can play with members.  The member booking the court should transfer £2.50 per guest per hour to the club’s account (30-96-26  50061360) and email Zoe (Zharris1975@gmail.com) advising her of the payment.  The bank account is in the name of Menheniot Tennis Club (as a business account).

 

2. How do the lights operate?

Answer: The light switch is located to the right in of the club house in a small wooden box.  The padlock is not locked, it just appears to be.  Please ensure you return the lock to the same position.  Open the box and turn the switch clockwise to turn on the light.  To turn off the light return the switch to the off position.  Please ensure you turn the lights off when leaving the courts and no one else is playing.

 

3. Do we recycle tennis balls?

Answer: Yes, we operate a ball exchange scheme.  Upto 500 million tennis balls are made each year and few are recycled.  Please do not send your old balls to landfill.  Put all old unwanted balls in the ball recycling tub which is located in the goal area at the courts.  If you need old balls for any re-use purpose, please help yourself to the balls in the tub.

 

4. Do we have coaching?

Answer: Yes.  Group coaching is organised for both adults and children - please see coaching tab for the most up to date information. The club coach, Stewart Lees organises the coaching and can be contacted to arrange one to one coaching or to join in the adult group coaching: stewart@tslassociates.co.uk / 07944 385887. Junior coaching is offered for all all ages from 5-16 - please contact Zoe/Tamsin.

 

5. How can I identify other players to play against?

Answer: The Menheniot Tennis Club Whatsapp group can connect you to all members, use this to reach-out to other members.  Inter-club league games are organised by Ian Harris.

 

6. Does the club play other local tennis clubs?

Answer: We play in the Plymouth and District league with both male and female doubles teams.   Please refer to our website for further information.

 

7. Do we have strap nets to reduce the movement of the nets during strong winds?

Answer: yes, they are in the container by the clubhouse.  Weights are provided to anchor the straps.

 

8. How do I access the clubhouse facilities?

Answer: Full clubhouse facilities are open on club events; coaches and team leaders have access to open them.  The toilets and changing facilities are accessible to all users; the key is in the keysafe which has the same code as the courts.

 

9. Can I volunteer to help the club?

Answer: Roles such as Secretary and Treasurer are allocated at the AGM in September.  Assistance with court maintenance is always appreciated, please contact Ian Harris ( ianharris1969@gmail.com ) to volunteer.

 

10.  How can I share my emergency contact number in case of serious illness or injury on the courts?

Answer: Use the following process to configure your phone to record your emergency contact or to use someone's phone to contact their emergency contact:

           1. Ensure you have your mobile phone with you when using the courts.

          2. Ensure that you have configured your phone with an emergency contact.  The configuration differs depending on the type of phone, but instructions can be found here:

        3. Ensure that you are familiar with the procedure to contact the emergency contact for both iphone and Android phones.

        4. If your tennis partner/opponent requires medical assistance then call the emergency services. 

        5. When possible contact their emergency contact using their mobile phone.

        6. There is a defibrillator outside the Clubhouse is needed.

11.    Does the Club have a ball machine and can I book it?

Answer: Yes provided you have attended the required training sessions arranged by the Club and are over 13 years of age. Juniors aged 14-17 must be accompanied by an parent who has attended the training. The ball machine is free to use. Instructions on use are included in the Policies and Booking sections of the website.
