Juniors Tennis

GET YOUR FAMILY INVOVLED IN A GREAT SOCIAL SPORT

We love tennis and at Midhurst Tennis Club we want our children to love it too!  We have an active Junior section, plenty of coaching classes and popular Mini Mix-Ins with the occasional tournament lobbed in for good measure.

Alex Bone is our resident professional, coaching all ages, from U6s to our Teens.  He runs a fun-filled academy with many juniors eventually “graduating” to challenge the adult members at Club Mix-Ins and sometimes progressing to represent the Club at league level.

We have enthusiastic volunteers (all DBS checked) who manage the Junior Mix-Ins, where Juniors can pop up to the club and practice what they’ve been learning at coaching sessions, and simply have fun on court!

We run regular Junior Tournaments (social and competitive) and work closely with the LTA to develop and encourage our young players.

Not only does tennis teach skills like agility, technique, gross motor skills, hand/eye co-ordination and fitness. Tennis, like many sports, teaches kids so many life skills - without them even realising it. Confidence, concentration, dealing with emotions, socialisation, the list is endless.

HOW TO JOIN

  • Tennis and coaching at Midhurst Tennis Club does require annual membership.
  • All U16s must be accompanied by an adult, at the club at all times.
  • Parents can book courts and practice with Juniors provided the parent subscribes to a “Social Membership”.
  • Our junior members can be assigned a British Tennis Member (BTM) number through their membership and the LTA.  If the Junior is 11+, they are eligible to opt-in for the Wimbledon Ballot.

WHY ARE THE BALLS DIFFERENT COLOURS?

According to the LTA,

  • Red for 8&U players - the ball is not pressurised and so bounces slowly and high, hence staying in the air longer and so easier to hit
  • Orange - slightly pressurised, and so a little faster
  • Green - pressurised to 50% of a yellow-ball, allowing the ball to fly through the air a little slower allowing the child more time to get to the ball now that they are playing on the full-sized tennis court
  • Yellow - fully pressurised and when they bounce, they bounce!

We strive to ensure that all children, young people and adults at risk are safeguarded from abuse and have an enjoyable tennis experience. Everyone who is involved in tennis has a shared responsibility to support this by promoting the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk.
