On Sunday April 27th two boys teams of four and one girls team of four represented Norfolk in the under 8’s County Cup at Hills Road Tennis Centre in Cambridge. Competing against Cambridge, Suffolk and Essex.
The boys A team consisted of Zac, Rufus, Joey and George H who very excitingly won the event beating both Suffolk teams Cambridge and Essex in the final. Zac managed to clinch a tough 10-9 victory during the day (even though he thought his shot was out and he lost 10-9) Rufus battled hard in every rally and at one stage won a rally after he stumbled retrieving a ball midpoint. Joey got Norfolk’s first win of the day which set the tone for the rest of the games and even won a rally that lasted over 4 minutes long. George managed an amazing 10-9 win against an Essex player who at one pointed tried to shush an excitable Norfolk crowd.
The boys B team consisted of George M, Takra and Logan. The boys battled hard in all of their games with all of them of them at least winning one game. Logan, who was a brilliant last minute stand in managed to get the most wins for the team on the day. However, George and Tarka managed an amzing doubles victory against the Suffolk boys in the last match of the day.
The girls team consisted of Emily, Jasmine, Eva and Nahinsa. The girls started with a tough match against Essex who ended up being the overall winners and then narrowly lost out to Cambridge who came second. However, with wins against the Essex B girls and Suffolk girls, Norfolk managed to finish up in third place. Emily, after losing out in a narrow first round loss managed to knuckle down and win her next two matches against tough opposition playing at number one seed. Jasmine was also unlucky in her first round match but ended up getting some crucial wins later on in the day. Eva started off strong with a win against Essex but then sadly lost out in her next game but came back strong after that with another two wins. Although Nahinsa didn’t come away with any wins wins. She got some crucial points on the board for Norfolk that definitely helped us secure third position as I believe we drew on of the matches so would’ve gone down to points.
A big thank you to any parents who helped with scoring as well as their support on the day as well as brining the kids to the event.
