Jane Ling helped England win the inaugural Four Nations Super Seniors Competition, against Scotland, Wales and Ireland, at the Bolton Arena from 22-24 November.
Jane and Alan Rayner (Essex) joined forces in the Over 70 round-robin team event to win all three of their mixed doubles rubbers. Other England team members included Barbara Bloor, Sally Little, David Stanton and Arun Vethakkan, who contested the ladies and men’s doubles rubbers.
Friday – Jane & Alan beat Mary Barry/Tim Eaton (Ireland) 6-3, 6-2, England 3-0 winners
Saturday – Jane & Alan beat Rob Rue/Kim Vaughan (Wales) 6-1, 6-2 in a tie-deciding rubber to give England a 2-1 victory.
Sunday – Jane & Alan beat Anne Hamilton/Anthony Marchetti (Scotland) 7-6(6), 6-4 in a tie-deciding rubber to give England a 2-1 victory.
Jane, who is No. 6 in the LTA Senior Rankings for Over 70 singles players and No. 8-ranked in doubles, said: “It was a most enjoyable and exciting weekend, and a great honour to play for England again.”
The England Over 75s team were runners up to Scotland. England won lifted the trophy in the combined overall competition.
