On Sun 22nd Dec, Norfolk U12's team of Imogen, Sofia, Amelija, Sophia, Sam, Albert, David and Aaron travelled to Corby for the latest stage of the 2024/25 season of this inter county event.
Accompanied by captain Chris Stocker, the days opponents were Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Nottinghamshire.
Round 1 vs Cambs
A tight opening set for Imogen at #1 went to her opponent 5-3, despite the continuation of some great tennis, she was unable to turn it around in the second set. Sophia at #4 also had a closely contested match, taking the opening set 5-3, she lost the second to go to a tie break 3rd, which her opponent played very well to take the win for Cambs. With the remainder of the squad unable to get a win between them, we lost 0-4 and 0-4 in both boys and girls. Albeit against the strongest team of the day.
Round 2 vs Beds
An encouraging first 4 matches resulted in early wins for Sam and Albert at #1, also for Imogen for the girls. Imogen's the most straight forward, with Sam and Albert made to work hard, shutting down their opponents in the later stages of their matches. David at #3 and Aaron at #4 both putting in a good shift to get wins for the team and seal a 4-0 win. The girls also got their first win of the day with Amelija and Sophia comfortable in victory to seal it 3-1.
Round 3 vs Notts
After victory, the boys all played some good, energetic tennis at times against Notts. But overall were unable to match their level of consistency. Albert going close at times in his match and forcing a ties break, but an injury while chasing down a ball left him unable to continue at the level required if he was going to win the match. In the girls, A really solid and mature performance from Imogen saw her take the first W for the team, Sofia unfortunately unable to get the games needed on the board in her match despite a good showing. Sophia was our last player of the day, and the last player on court after Amelija's opponent had to concede her match due to injury as the tide had just started to shift in Norfolk's favour. At 2-1, Sophia's match had drawn a large crowd, and she duly delivered the final win of the day. Boys 1-3, Girls 3-1.
Overall the boys finished 3rd, the girls 2nd.
