Inter county under 8 match report
On Sunday June 22nd six boys and six girls represented Norfolk in an inter county event held at Hills Road Tennis Centre in Cambridge competing against the likes of Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Northants, Buckinghamshire and Cambridge.
The team consisted of Zac, Rufus, Joey, George H, George M and Logan. The boys were in a tough group against Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Northants and Cambridge. Up first was Hertfordshire and after some good battles Norfolk sadly lost the first few games with logan narrowly losing out 10-7. However, with wins from Joey, Rufus and Zac we managed to get a respectful 3-3 draw. Sadly, we lost the next 2 games against Suffolk and Cambridge 4-2 but with Geroge H and Logan getting their first wins. We then won the last game in our group against Northants to finish 4th overall in the group.
We then played Essex in the first match of the play off as they came third in the following group but unfortunately again after battling so well the boys lost out 4-2 overall meaning we played Northants again in the final around of games. But, after a first win of the day for George M the boys managed one final victory of the day finishing 7th overall.
The girls team consisted of Emily, Eva, Jasmine, Nahinsa, Ruby and Olivia. The girls had a group of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridge. In the first match against Hertfordshire the girls lost out on an all to familiar scoreline of the day 4-2 but wins from Ruby and Jasmine were positive. We then lost out on the next two games 5-1. However, the girls were battling well with wins from Emily and some close match with both Eva and Nahinsa narrowly losing out 10-9 in their games. In the next round the girls recorded two 4-2 wins over Bedfordhsire and Northants with wins from Emily, Eva, Jasmine and Ruby with Olivia and Nahinsa battling well and were unlucky not to pick up wins. The girls lost out in their last game against Suffolk 4-2 meaning they also finished 7th overall.
A tough day overall but O felt overall performance from both teams was better than the previous event earlier on in the year even though the result may not have been what we wanted. A big thank you to the players, the parents and to Isabella for scoring.
