Blofield Tennis Club Celebrates 100 Years

Blofield Tennis Club celebrated its 100-year anniversary on 8 June with more than 100 people in attendance, including members of the founding families: the Ropes, Basey-Fishers and Lincolns.

The day got underway with an American Tournament, with participants aged between 15 and 84 dressed in 1920s tennis clothing. There was also croquet, tug-of-war and various free stalls, before high tea was served in the Margaret Harker Hall. Izzy Waller sang a few numbers, there was a tennis quiz and speeches before dancing into the night.

It was a great celebration for Blofield Tennis Club, and many thanks go to Chair Karen Isbill, Colin Stocker, Diana Gilder, Belinda Hemsley, Ros Watson, Dawn Stocker, and Chloe Veale, who meticulously compiled a Centenary booklet and memorabilia display.

James Buddell, Acting Chair for Norfolk Tennis, and Heather Bottomley, LTA Councillor for Norfolk, also attended the celebrations.

The War Memorial Recreation Ground had been opened at a village fete on Monday, 9 June 1924, with tennis matches organised as part of the Whit Monday celebration.
