14 and U Boys County Cup News

14&U Boys County Cup Qualifying 30th April – 1st May 2022

Our team had trained hard leading up to the Event and I was confident we could give a good account of ourselves. The Team comprised of Kacper Laskowski, Joshua Wright, Noah Clarke, Bodie Hamilton and Jake Reynolds and I have to say throughout the entire competition they were a pleasure to work with, they always gave 100%, listened well and took on board advice and fought tirelessly for the county and each other.

Due to the Isle of Man pulling we had to play the five team round robin box format which meant very long days and the boys coped extremely well.

Warwickshire first up a historically strong county and probably the favourites on paper. After all the singles and doubles are completed we are tied at 3-3 up step Laskowski and Clarke to play the shoot out they fly out of the blocks and never look back the favourites are beaten we are feeling something could be happening!

Oxfordshire are our next opponents and again are strong on paper. The boys are business like and take care of the tie! the two strongest counties are now beaten we have to guard against any drop in intensity we’ve done the hard work but still have some good counties to beat to ensure overall victory in the form of Staffordshire and North Wales.  I need not have worried the boys were extremely determined at this point and sensed the huge opportunity they had created for themselves, they took care of both Staffordshire and north Wales comfortably. The boys had done it and qualified for the National Finals what an incredible effort!

Once the presentation was done we sat there enjoying some well deserved pizza and chatted excitedly about what lay ahead at the national finals.

14&U Boys County Cup National Finals 13, 14 and 15th May 2022

We arrive at Nottingham Tennis Centre nice and Early and they have a pro tour event on at the same time so it’s a fantastic opportunity for the boys to see these top players up close and acts as a good source of inspiration for all the juniors.

First up Yorkshire we fight hard the margins are fine at this level all the matches are close but we find ourselves 5-0 down Laskowski and Wright win the doubles superbly to secure our first rubber at Nationals 1-5 win to Yorkshire.

North of Scotland Next we fight hard and wins for Laskowski in the singles and Laskowski and Wright in the doubles lead to a 2-4 win to North of Scotland.

South Wales next the favourites on paper! A fantastic effort from the boys against a high quality team Laskowski and Wright win their doubles comfortably to restore our confidence 1-5 win to South Wales.

Cheshire next our last tie and the boys sense a chance for a win Wright secures a brilliant singles win Laskowski follows and then Laskowski and wright win the Doubles to ensure we go to the shoot out and just like day 1 of qualifying Lakowski and Clarke step up and storm the shoot out a fantastic end to an incredible journey well done to all the boys they should be extremy proud of this incredible achievement.
