PAVENHAM TENNIS CLUB
News Release No 41 June 2023
Welcome to another year in the life of Pavenham Tennis Club! We are so lucky to be able to play tennis in such a
beautiful setting. Let's hope the summer brings us some wonderful weather so we can all make good use of the courts.
This news letter is a reminder of some of the things going on at the courts. Please let us know if you have any ideas of
events you would like the club to hold – we are always interested in your views.
You will have received a welcome letter through Clubspark when you renewed your membership or joined as a new
member. This is sent to the main contact in the membership package so please distribute it to all PTC members in your
family group as it contains important information for our members. The same applies to this news letter!
Floodlights
At some point in the not too distant future we will need to make a decision about updating our floodlights to LEDs.
Sourcing replacement parts and bulbs for our existing metal halide lights is proving difficult and in the present energy
crisis they are expensive to run. There are 2 huge obstacles to cross if we are to go ahead – Bedford Borough Council
planning department and also applications for grants. If there are any members with knowledge of either of these who
would be able to help the committee please contact us.
Tokens for the floodlights cost £3.00 for half an hour and can be collected from Val. Please phone first.
Courts
Remember that you need to book courts through ClubSpark before playing and also please cancel if not subsequently
required.
Coaching
The junior sessions are organised by Jonny Woolf and the adult sessions by Dave Revell. Please get in touch with these
if you are interested in either group sessions or individual lessons (contact details at the end of this letter). It is
possible to join coaching groups at any point during the term.
Junior group coaching
Monday 6.00-7.00, 7.00-8.00
Adult group coaching
Monday 8.00pm-9.00pm
Thursday 9.15am-10.15am active retired group
Social Tennis
Saturday afternoon social is held between 4.00 and 6.00. This is open to all standards from beginners to the more
experienced player. Although we usually manage at least one court we could definitely do with a few more
participants. There is a WhatsApp group for this so that people can show an interest usually a couple of hours
beforehand. If you wish to be added to this please let Val Curtis know.
Monday morning social is held between 10.00 and 12.00. It is aimed at the more “leisurely” player. Please contact Jo
Sykes (contact details below) if you are not already in the WhatsApp group for this session and would like to be
included.
League Matches
We have 2 teams entered in the Beds league: ladies and mixed. We also combine with Sharnbrook and Harrold as Ouse
Valley and enter a ladies vets and mixed vets team. Please contact us if you are interested in playing for a team and
pushing yourself to the next level!
Visitors
If you are playing with someone who is not a member please remember to pay the visitor's fee of £3.00 per adult and
£1.00 for juniors. This should be paid by BACS please - bank details are at the bottom of our ClubSpark website home
page – with a reference of the member's and visitor's name. It is very important that we have a record of visitors. A
maximum of 3 visits is allowed before membership is encouraged.
Safeguarding
As a condition of registration with the LTA we have to meet certain standards to ensure the safeguarding of children
and vulnerable adults. We have adopted safeguarding and diversity policies which can be found on our website. These
include codes of conduct for both adults and children which, as a member of Pavenham Tennis Club, we should all be
following. Please take the time to have a look. Any concerns should initially be addressed to our welfare officer
Christine Sturgess (contact details below).
