PAVENHAM TENNIS CLUB
News Release No 40 May 2022
Welcome to what will, hopefully, be our first full season since March 2020. We are so lucky to have had access to the courts, apart from the two full lockdown periods, but now “normal service” has resumed let’s get out there and play tennis!
Membership
Thank you to those of you who have managed to navigate the vagaries of the ClubSpark platform and renew your membership. We will be sending all communications through ClubSpark in the future to Active / paid up members, so please save this email address to your contacts to help avoid them going to the junk folder.
This year, due to a national LTA initiative to merge our ClubSpark and LTA accounts into a single sign on process, we were prompted to merge our two accounts online. Most did this earlier in the year or at the point of membership renewal. If you are still to do this, please do so ASAP as it will hopefully avoid any ongoing sign on issues in the future.
Courts, bookings and floodlights
During the last 2 years the padlocks were removed from the court gates, as recommended by the LTA, to limit the risk of Covid infection. These are being replaced immediately to prevent unauthorised court usage. If you have yet to collect a key or have misplaced yours, please contact Val Curtis for a new one. There is a key deposit fee of £10.
We will continue to use the court booking system through ClubSpark. Please book a court before playing as this not only means that you are assured of a court but also allows us to keep track of who is using the courts. It is also very important to cancel a court if you find that you no longer need it to free it up for others to use.
Floodlight tokens are available from Val Curtis and Christine Sturgess at a cost of £2 a token which illuminates both courts for half an hour. The token meter is inside the clubhouse at the side of the door
Coaching
The junior sessions are organised by Jonny Woolf and the adult sessions by Dave Revell. Please get in touch with these if you are interested in either group sessions or individual lessons (contact details at the end of this letter).
Jonny is also running one of his summer camp weeks at the Pavenham courts. This is a good opportunity for an intensive week of tennis and other activities for junior players. Details can be found on his website https://woolfysport.co.uk/
The Pavenham summer camp week dates are Monday 29th August - Friday 2nd September.
Our juniors will also be competing against other local clubs this summer which will be great experience for them.
Junior group coaching
Monday 6.00pm - 7.00pm, 7.00pm - 8.00pm
Wednesday 4.30pm - 5.30pm
Adult group coaching
Monday 8.00pm - 9.00pm
Thursday 10.30am - 11.30am active retired group
Social Tennis
Saturday afternoon social is held between 4.00pm and 6.00pm. This is open to all standards from beginners to the more experienced player. There is a WhatsApp group for this so that people can sign up each week and if you wish to be added to this, please let Val Curtis know (contact details below).
Monday morning social is held between 10.00am and 12.00 noon. It is aimed at the more “leisurely” player. Please contact Chris Holt (contact details below) if you are not already in the WhatsApp group for this session and would like to be included.
League Matches
We have 5 teams entered in the Beds league: men's, ladies, mixed, ladies vets and mixed vets. Please contact us if you are interested in playing for a team and pushing yourself to the next level!
Visitors
We are happy for members to bring visitors to play with on payment of a fee of £2.50 per adult, £1.00 per student and £0.50 for juniors. This should be paid please by BACS - details are at the bottom of our ClubSpark website home page – with a reference of the member's and visitor's name. Please also record the person in our visitor's book in the clubhouse, on the countertop under the light switch. For guidance, after three visits an invitation to join the club will be sent out to them.
Club Treasurer
Although Martin Telfer has moved away, he is still acting as treasurer until we can find a replacement. If you feel you could take over this role, please contact Val Curtis. Anyone who is comfortable with an Excel spreadsheet is qualified for the job! Now that the membership payments are mostly taken automatically through the ClubSpark platform the position is not too onerous.
Court Maintenance
The courts are now being cleaned and treated for moss 3 times a year. This has made a difference and we will continue this for another year. The lines are beginning to fade and we are planning to have these repainted in the summer.

Our Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/PavenhamTC/ which you can check out even if you are not a Facebook user. However, if you are, please follow us to receive any new information.
Safeguarding
As a condition of registration with the LTA we must meet certain standards to ensure the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. We have adopted safeguarding and diversity policies which can be found on our website. These include codes of conduct for both adults and children which, as a member of Pavenham Tennis Club, we should all be following. Please take the time to have a look. Any concerns should initially be addressed to our welfare officer Christine Sturgess (contact details below).
