PAVENHAM TENNIS CLUB

News Release No 39 June 2021

Welcome to our 22nd season and a special welcome to all our new members.
It has been a difficult time for everyone since March 2020 but, hopefully, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel
and also a longed for improvement in the weather.

Membership

The membership renewals on Clubspark have been going well and our numbers are looking very healthy.
Please remember that if you bring a visitor along you need to pay the £2.50 visitors fee preferably by BACS - details of how to pay are at the bottom of the home page on our Clubspark website. Or better still encourage them to join!

Court Bookings

We will continue to use the court booking system through Clubspark. Please book a court before playing as this not
only means that you are assured of a court but also allows us to keep track of who is using the courts. The LTA require
us to keep records for NHS track and trace purposes at present. It is also very important to cancel a court if you find
that you no longer need it in order to free it up for others to use.

Coaching

Only paid-up members are eligible to participate in the club coaching sessions.
There are currently five junior coaching sessions each week. The coaching team of Dave Revell and Jonny Woolf are on hand for group and individual sessions. Fees for coaching are payable to Dave Revell.

Junior Coaching

Monday 5.30 – 6.30pm Boys U18 Squad
Monday 6.00 – 7.00pm Mini Orange/Green
Thursday 5.30 – 6.30 pm Girls coaching group.
Thursday 6.30 – 7.30pm Boys U14 Squad
Sunday 12.30 – 1.30pm Boys U18 Group
Some of our 7 – 9-year-olds will be playing in a competition on 19th June. They have been practising hard and we wish them a great experience and hope they enjoy themselves and learn a lot.

Adult Coaching

Tuesday 9.30-10.30am Ladies
Thursday 10.30 -11.30am Reactiv8 Group for the active retired or semi-retired
If you or your children would like to join one of these coaching groups, please contact Dave Revell on 07494 534595 or Jonny Woolf on 07880 712864

Social Tennis

We still need to continue keeping a record of attendance for these sessions.
Saturday afternoon social is held between 4.00 and 6.00. This is open to all standards from beginners to the more
experienced player. There is a WhatsApp group for this so that people can sign up each week and if you wish to be
added to this please let Martin Telfer know (contact details below).
Monday morning social is held between 10.00 and 12.00. It is aimed at the more “leisurely” player. Please contact
Chris Holt (contact details below) if you are not already in the WhatsApp group for this session and would like to be
included.

League Matches

We have 5 teams entered in the Beds league: mens, ladies, mixed, ladies vets and mixed vets. Please contact us if you
are interested in playing for a team and pushing yourself to the next level! We would be very pleased to have more
players in these squads.

Visitors

We are happy for members to bring visitors to play with on payment of a fee of £2.50 per adult, £1.00 per student and £0.50 for juniors. This should be paid please by BACS - details are at the bottom of our Clubspark website home page – with a reference of the member's and visitor's name.

The Tennis Club Online

Our website can be found at www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/PavenhamTennisClub where there is further information
about the club including our policies.
Our Facebook page is www.facebook.com/PavenhamTC which you can check out even if you are not a Facebook
user. However if you are, please follow us in order to receive any new information.

Safeguarding

As a condition of registration with the LTA we have to meet certain standards to ensure the safeguarding of children
and vulnerable adults. We have adopted safeguarding and diversity policies which can be found on our website. These include codes of conduct for both adults and children which, as a member of Pavenham Tennis Club, we should all be following. Please take the time to have a look. Any concerns should initially be addressed to our welfare officer
Christine Sturgess (contact details below).

Clubhouse, Floodlights, Courts

The clubhouse is closed at present apart for access to the floodlights and for the coaches use but we will hopefully be
opening it up soon. When we do this you will receive a new code for the door.

We were not able to run any events last year but we are hopeful that this year we will have more success.

Condolences

The club were saddened to hear of the recent death of Vicky Nightingale who had been a member for a number of
years. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Club Treasurer

Finally, most of you are probably aware by now that Margaret and Martin Telfer will be moving to pastures/tennis
courts new in the not too distant future. Apart from the fact that we will miss them dearly it means that we will need a new treasurer. If you have experience in these matters and think you would like to take this on then please contact
Martin and he can give you an idea of what it entails.

Enjoy your tennis and stay safe!
