Ladies League Summer 2018
After securing promotion last year from 6B to 6A, Pensford ladies were keen to continue their successful run. With some new players joining the team, and under guidance from coach Dan, hopes were high.
The first few matches were tough and we suffered some heavy defeats; we were up against some much bigger clubs with teams in higher leagues and we fell foul of the ruling that better players can play in lower leagues for a certain number of games. We were struggling with player availability, injury and swapping around the pairings. However, once we got our first win against Sodbury there was no stopping us, (apart from a minor blip, namely Bath!); we were settled with our pairs and we had some very good convincing wins.
So would we get promotion again? It came down to the last match and our fate was to be determined not only by our result but was dependent on the outcome of other games between the teams just above us. Unfortunately we narrowly lost to Writhlington (by only 1 game) but also David Lloyd beat Bath heavily, meaning that we missed out on promotion by just 2 points. We finished a very comfortable 3rd, with Kerry finishing top lady in the whole league, Jo was fourth and Sally fifth.
A great result!! We have this year to consolidate our games, allow new players to gain in confidence and then next season – here we come!!
Thanks and well done to everyone who played, especially to Bev and Ann who stepped in at the last minute, and to Jo and Jennie who were able to juggle their child care arrangements to allow them to play. We’ve got a strong team, and we’re already looking forward to playing again next year!!
