Shock and awe from the USA

Nations of the world (some less developed than others) came together today at Pewsey for the world’s first combined Davis / Fed cup event. Four teams from Europe, the USA, Australia and Africa battled out over three rounds of men’s singles, ladies doubles and men’s doubles before the USA were allowed to win (to avoid any Trump fire and fury).

Participants entered into the spirit of things and rustled up some impressive national costumes. The witch doctor took the prize for the best outfit, a marvellous piece of artist genius, yes Fred, who else. Malcolm played in full Bavarian dress with a proper wooden racquet and Mike Cox managed to find a parking space for his gondola.  McEnroe junior managed to keep his tantrums in check. The wail from Keith’s bagpipes struck fear into opponent’s hearts but didn’t seem to stop them winning.

Following the presentation of prizes, the event was rounded off with some fine sandwiches (thank-you Matthew and Judith) and other nibbles and refreshments.  Thank-you to everyone who supported the event and made it such an enjoyable success.
