The Jean Clifford Trophy 30th July

The inaugural Jean Clifford Trophy tournament will be held on Sunday 30th July in memory and celebration of Jean Clifford, an important and much-loved member of our club. This year, the format will be an American tournament, so it will be a work out for your brain, as well as your body!

  • As with quick doubles tournaments, pairings of more experienced players (As) with less experienced players (Bs) will rotate during the afternoon.
  • As each person will score a point for each game they win, the overall winners will be the more experienced player (A) and less experienced player (B) with the highest personal scores.

Contact Chris (c_milnes@hotmail.com) by Sunday 23rd July if you're interested in playing.

Mary Finlay has shared some memories (and great photos!) of her friend, Jean:

I am proud to say Jean was my friend.  She was one of the most influential members the club has ever had. For many years she was a club secretary who never missed a tournament, was ever present at club nights and worked tirelessly for the club, arranging her holidays around events.

Jean played competitive tennis into her eighties. She won her share of trophies over the years.

She is sadly missed, especially by me. She talked endlessly about the club.  I hope everyone who knew Jean and also the new members who did not will make an effort to play or attend the tournament on Sunday 30th July to celebrate Jean's memory and have a fun afternoon.

Everyone is welcome and we hope to have refreshments throughout the afternoon. Jean’s family, who also did much for the club, will be coming to the event and will present the trophies.
