A Day of Inspiration at National Tennis Centre
By Ramsbury Tennis Club
On a bright and promising Friday morning, four enthusiastic children embarked on a memorable journey to the National Tennis Centre (NTC). This unique adventure, guided by the dedicated operation manager, Lee Myers, offered an exclusive glimpse into the life of professional tennis.
A Tour of Excellence
The day began with an insightful tour of the facility, skilfully led by Lee Myers. With a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the sport, Lee introduced the children to the state-of-the-art amenities that make Roehampton NTC a premier training ground for top tennis players in the UK. From immaculate courts to high performance support areas, every corner of the centre impressed them. It was clear - becoming a pro takes serious support, precision, and passion. The children were amazed by the level of detail and professionalism that goes into preparing elite tennis players.
Meeting the Pros
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to meet and talk to professional players who train at the NTC. The children were inspired by the dedication and commitment of these athletes, who shared their experiences and offered valuable advice. The conversations left a lasting impression on the young visitors, reinforcing the importance of hard work and perseverance in achieving their dreams.
Enjoying the Player’s Canteen
After the tour, the children were treated to a delightful lunch at the player’s canteen. The food was not only nutritious but also delicious, providing the perfect fuel for the activities ahead. The canteen's vibrant atmosphere, filled with the friendly players and staff, added to the overall experience, making the children feel like part of the tennis community. “It felt like being one of them” one child remarked, capturing the immersive experience perfectly.
Practicing on the Courts
The excitement reached its peak when the children had the chance to practice on the very courts where the top UK players hone their skills. Under the guidance of our experienced coach George Wardley, they engaged in drills and friendly matches, experiencing firsthand the intensity and joy of the sport. It was an unforgettable opportunity to walk (and play!) in the shoes of tennis stars.
Children's Feedback
Hearing from the children themselves added a heartfelt touch to the day's events. Here are some of their words of feedback:
- "It was very fun and cool to watch some of Britain's best tennis players play!"
- "Practicing on the same courts as top players was a dream come true."
- "It was amazing to see how good the players were and how much work they put into it"
- "I loved seeing how much the players continue to love their tennis, even though they are working very hard every day!"
Inspiring the Future
The day at Roehampton NTC was more than just a fun day out, it was an inspiration.
It gave the children a real taste of the professional tennis world, left them inspired, and showed them what’s possible with dedication and belief.
Opportunities like this go beyond the court. They build confidence, fuel ambition, and remind young players that their dreams are within reach - with the right support and mindset.
We’re excited to see how this special day shapes their journey. We look forward to seeing these young stars shine on and off the court!
