On a sunny October Saturday, RLTC ladies third team travelled to Wimbledon Gardens for their final away match of the season.
Our hosts were very welcoming, despite having been burgled overnight with all their champagne from the bar having been stolen.
Gardens first pair, a couple of strong youngsters, beat Richmond's Steffi Spitznagel and Agustina Mackinlay in the first rubber 6-3, 6-4. The match was hard fought though with long rallies and many games going to deuce. Richmond's second pair, Ailsa Williams and Sue Manley, had an easier ride in their first rubber with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Garden's second pair.
The second rubbers saw even longer rallies on both courts and identical scores as the first rubber - Agustina and Steffi won 6-1, 6-0 and Ailsa and Sue lost 6-4, 6-3 - so overall a draw.
The result means RLTC ladies thirds ended the season at the top of their league.
