What is the best age to start Tennis?

What is the best age to start Tennis?

This is one of the most common questions parents ask me before enrolling their little ones to start training with us.
I would say any age is good to start any sport, due to the numerous benefits it will bring to the child’s development as motor coordination skills, concentration, team work, social skills, self-confidence just to mention a few.
Our tennis programmes are designed to tailor the needs of all players.

  • Tots Tennis (3 to 5 YO) : Everything is about doing fun games, developing gross motor skills  a light tennis racket and mini red balls will be used.
  • Mini Red ( 6 to 8  YO) : They are nearly real tennis players, they start developing their technique as they are bigger and stronger. They play on mini red tennis courts.
  • Mini  Orange (8 to 9 YO) : Playing on a three quarter court, they are using their technique and tactical knowledge to move their opponents around. They are still developing their technique
  • Mini Green (10-11 YO) : On a full adult court for the rest of their playing career. They are now using all their tools to become the complete package.
  • Yellow balls (11 YO +): Made it to the final stage and know understanding all techniques and tactics of the game.

No matter the age your little champion starts, the real important thing is to support them, letting them enjoy their sport and have fun.
As a parent of a 3YO, I am so excited about the idea of her doing her first tennis camp at DLTC this April.

Dulwich Lawn Tennis Club Championships

From the 3rd to the 16th June, we will have our club championships. It will be a great opportunity to show your best tennis and enjoy a great time. Get ready!
We are currently looking for catering companies which are interested in working with us during these 2 weeks. If you can recomend someone, it will be great to let us know soon so that we can assess our options and try to go for the best match.
During the championships, we will need your help with tidying up, umpiring (mainly for the finals day where all matches will be assigned an umpire), directing players to the right courts or simply to come down, have a drink and a meal while watching some quality tennis along with your friends.
