NEW MEMBERS

As a new member, you are entitled to our £50 NEW MEMBER OFFER (Membership Option 1) regardless of your experience level. With this, you receive:

  • 2 months of unrestricted membership: Use the courts as much as you like, we have no court fees or booking system (first come first serve)
  • Free group coaching course: A short course that will cover all of the fundamental techniques of tennis - perfect for beginners but also useful if you've played a bit. What's more, you will meet and play with others new to the club, so you will find a sparring partner at your level from day one.

After your 2 months are done, you will have the option to upgrade your membership to one of our annual categories. The £50 already paid will go towards any membership you select.

FAQs

Do I need my own racket and balls to play?

We have spare rackets and used balls available whenever you attend the club, so having your own equipment is not necessary to begin with.

What specific equipment should I have?

It is recommended that you invest in some tennis specific footwear - standard jogging/running shoes are not best suited for side to side movement or for quick stopping and starting, so your ankles and knees could be at risk of injury.

How can I get more coaching after my 6 week course is over?

It is possible to join in with the following 6 week coaching course after you've completed yours, providing you have active membership for the duration. Every course has spaces for players who wish to do this - these players will be grouped together and will be coached to develop what they have learnt from their initial 6 week course. The cost of 6 weeks of group coaching is around £45. You can also speak to Head Coach Nathan Worrell if you are interested in private coaching, which ranges from £25-30/hr depending on your coach. More information on coaching can be found here.

What other opportunities are there to play socially?

There are numerous supervised social matchplay sessions during the week - these are on our calendar and circulated each week via email. There is a mix of standards at every session, if you are concerned about your level of experience then the Monday evening session is the most accessible. All sessions are doubles play, with the exception of Wednesday evening which is singles play.

Do I need to book to come to social matchplay sessions?

You do not need to book, nor do you need to come along with a doubles partner. Players are organised into matches as and when they arrive, until they choose to depart.

Can I bring guests?

One guest at a time is permitted to play but must pay a £5 daily visitor fee.

Please transfer the money to Shirley Park Lawn Tennis Club Sort Code : 40-11-58  Account No: 40194557

A particular guest may play upto 6 times. After that they must become a member of SPLTC.

Please inform Katy (k_kirkby1985@yahoo.co.uk) when you bring up a guest.

What opportunities are there to play competitively?

Every summer we have Club Championships in Mens and Ladies singles, doubles, mixed doubles and veterans events. We also have organised internal leagues as well as 4 mens teams, 3 ladies teams and mixed doubles teams that compete locally against other clubs in the SW London area. If you're interested in playing for one of the teams, don't hesitate to let us know so you can be considered for selection. Most notably for new players, we run the New Members Cup every year for those who joined in the current season - you can only do this once so it's not to be missed!

Do SPLTC run social events?

Every year we run a number of events including quiz nights, beer shuffles, fun tournaments, etc. Sometimes these events are run in conjunction with the other sports clubs based at Sandilands, and usually take place in our on site Bar Area.
