Club

A view from the chair - March 2025

Goodness the last few weeks went by quickly!

We are gearing up for Saturday 5th April as the starting date for the new season with a special tea in the clubhouse at 4pm.

Lots of things are progressing nicely around the club although the TO DO list doesn’t seem to get any shorter.

Work has started on the flood resilience scheme for the clubhouse with a pump now installed and a new front door on order.

Decorators are quoting for painting the club house and we hope to engage one of them ASAP (although the good ones all seem to be very busy). Meanwhile proposals for how we will spruce the place up will go to the committee at the end of March. A big tidy up and a clear out of the clubhouse is planned before the end of the month.

You may have noticed that the broken benches outside the clubhouse have been repaired and are due for a quick varnish. New hooks will shortly be in place for garments to hang on courts 7 to 11.

The grass could be greener but Keith is working on that! All his equipment will soon be stored in the new shed that’s now in the queue for Planning Approval. A big thank you to Rhett Costin for his help with drawings and plans.

Your club is shaping up for the new season and it’s going to look - and be -amazing!

The only question is – WHICH new season are we talking about?

Don’t worry, still planning for 2025, rather than 2026…Watch this space.

A couple of quick pleas for help if you don’t mind. DO NOT glaze over! This is important - please read on:

Firstly, if you haven’t yet made your renewal payment by BACS please get on with it if you possibly can. This is not because we are desperate for the cash and can’t afford to restock the bar. It’s simply so that we can update the clubspark system at a sensible pace in March without the new team (me and Edie, basically) getting into a panic if there’s an avalanche of renewals in early April.

If you missed the email that went out from Edie our new Membership Secretary last weekend about what to pay and how to pay you can read the Adult Single renewal letter again. Please see the letter attached. Or ask one of us to resend the relevant email if you are in another membership category and unsure about how much to pay.

Secondly there’s still some gaps in the rotas for club sessions, and club teas, and there’s now a rota for anyone who wants to channel their inner Tom Cruise for an hour or so on a Saturday afternoon.

I’m talking Cocktail rather than Top Gun.

Actually, let’s be honest we are talking lifting a few cans of beer out of a fridge and pouring the odd glass of wine. It’s not exactly Mission Impossible. And you don’t need to be a practicing Scientologist.

Head over to the Help Out section on the website and do what you can once or twice over the Spring and Summer. Please!

And finally, we are planning an Open Day for new members on Sunday 6th April from 10am to 2pm. A number of new people are waiting to join but we won’t issue any invites until we know how many members are renewing this year – another reason we are keen to get a handle on renewal numbers this month.

If you know anyone who is keen to join Shropshire’s best tennis club, please ask them to register on our ‘Expressions of Interest’ list and let them know about the Open Day on Sunday 6th April.

There’s loads more to tell you, but you will have to wait to April…

Enjoy your tennis meanwhile,

Jeremy
