In 2014, we sadly lost one of our members Syd Taffs. Friendly and well liked, Syd was a familiar sight on the courts and a regular player at the social tennis evenings.
In his memory we have set up a members tournament designed to start the tennis season each year. Syd’s family has very kindly donated a Silver Platter as the prize, as well as a wooden bench that we have in place at the club pavilion.
We played this annual doubles Syd Taffs tournament on Sunday 5th May to kick off the season.
26 players competed throughout the afternoon in some very close matches. We also had good support from as many spaectators. The weather was very kind and play was uninterupted.
We raised money for the Teenage Cancer Trust which was a charity supported by Syd following the loss of his grandson. The full total will appear here soon.
The winners of the afternoon were: Stephen Oakden and Ros Elphick. Congratulations to both of you.
