Newsletter Spring 2021

There has never been a better time to join South Cave Tennis Club!  We have exciting plans which will expand our facilities dramatically. A smart access gate has just been installed ready for the season opening on March 29th through funding from the Lawn Tennis Association.  This system allows for online court bookings through ClubSpark, pay and play access to increase revenue at less popular times and for the floodlights to come on automatically.  We have plans to make these floodlights more cost efficient and environmentally friendly by replacing them with LED lights.

The clubhouse is in desperate need of a makeover and the long-waited addition of a toilet!  We have recently applied to extend our planning permission for the two additional courts behind the car park.  Increased security, palisade fencing and a path from the car park to the courts are other areas which need addressing.  We appreciate this will require a lot of fund raising so we are working hard on your behalf to make this happen.  Please let us know if you would like to get involved!

Flooding

We had our courts resurfaced in April 2019 only for them to be flooded in June 2019.  This was due to the drains backing up on Church Street and overflowing onto the courts.  We may have to have them professionally cleaned in the future, however, following in-house efforts from members they are still in very good playing condition.

Smart Access Gate Guidelines

You will need a ClubSpark account to be able to book and gain access to the courts. If you were a member in 2020 then you can use the same account as last season and these will be active until 30/04/21.  As a new member, once you have joined the club, you will be invited via email to set up a ClubSpark account.  We suggest the easiest way to book a court is by downloading the ClubSpark App for your smartphone or tablet:

Guidelines on court bookings

  • Go onto ClubSpark and select the court you want and press confirm…you will receive a 4-digit pin which you input into the pad by the gate.  Simply push the gate open.  This pin remains active for the whole hour in case you need to come out of the court.
  • If you are playing on an evening and require floodlights you must pay for these at the time of booking.  These are at a cost of £5/hour.  The floodlights will automatically go on and off.
  • ClubSpark settings allow you to book 7 one-hour bookings per week.
  • Due to court restrictions, we ask that you only book TWO PEAK BOOKINGS per week.  This is done on an honesty basis but we are able to monitor bookings.

Peak

5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday to Friday

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Weekends

The rest is considered as off peak

  • If a court is not booked in peak times and you have already used your two peak bookings, you are able to book ON THE DAY.
  • Members have priority booking so can book 14 days in advance
  • You may cancel your floodlights up to 2 hours prior to your booking. Please note it takes 5 – 10 days for a refund to reach your account.

Pay and Play

  • Non-members are able to book using LTA Rally
  • The cost of a court for one hour is £10 plus £6 for floodlights if required.  After research, these costs are comparable to local clubs who also have the smart access gates.
  • Non-members can book 7 days in advance

Membership fees are due for renewal on 01/04/21.  The club have agreed to offer current members a grace period of 1 month to pay these fees to give you chance to get use to the new booking system. Fees will still fall due for renewal 01/04/22.

And finally……

Two big thank you messages.

All of us connected with the club would like to say a huge thank you to Alison Hudson who took her last set of minutes before stepping down as Club Secretary after 11 years.

Alison has been a huge supporter of the Club, a great friend and is a decent tennis player. We all look forward to continuing to play tennis with Alison (without her having to think about the paperwork).

And also, a big thank you to our club Chairman, Stewart Johnson, for all his work and effort in getting our new gate sorted. I’m sure we are all looking forward to using it, and playing lots of tennis.

Thank you!
