JEAN LIPSCOMB - Celebratory Tea Party: Sunday 15 October 3pm

We are holding a tea party at 3pm on Sunday 15 October at the tennis club to bid au revoir to a very dear friend of SHTC, Jean Lipscomb.
Jean has been part of the fabric of South Hampstead Tennis Club for an amazing 66 years. Jean and her late husband Keith joined the club in 1951 and both were committed players; Jean socially and Keith a keen and competitive player, became a regular winner of singles and doubles tournaments at the club and in wider events for decades to follow. Jean left the courts a little earlier than Keith who continued to play on well into his 80s.
Jean has been a staunch supporter at SHTC AGMs, with Keith being a constant on the committee for approaching 30 years. At weekends Jean had her favourite spot in the club house and in between watching tennis she would be knitting away…. and some of us have been privileged to adorn some of Jean’s creations in the form of SHTC jerseys and fingerless gloves! Jean mixed with young and old at the club and with her great sense of humour could often be heard laughing and sharing a few risqué jokes with her friends.
Jean has proudly awarded the Keith Lipscomb Cup to winners of the Men’s Veteran tournament in recent years, in memory of dear Keith and in support of the excellent play of those reaching a certain age!
On Sunday we will all say a fond farewell to Jean who now, approaching 90 years young, will be moving from the area to be nearer her son. If you would like to come along for tea then please confirm to jan@stroud.cx
There will be scones for those who are unable to pull themselves away from the courts at that time!

With best
Jan Stroud
