Players to the West and players to the East. Where does one start?
We counted a total of 30 players on court: 16 in the social tournament; 8 in a Men’s 1 match; 4 in the Sunday social mix-in and 2 members of the public enjoying a game of tennis. And this, believe or not, is a weekend in early February!
Weather, weather, weather! Always important but even more so in the winter months. And the weather did up proud after a nail-biting lead-up to Sunday, 9th when the weather on the day could have been quite different.
On this occasion we used a different social tournament format: 2 rounds of Men’s Doubles and Ladies Doubles followed by two rounds of Mixed Doubles: a total of 4 short matches per pair and a total of 8 games played per match, producing a total number of 32 games per player.
Our February top scorers were Nigel Kirkby (22 games) and Kerry Shannahan (21 games), closely followed by our runners- up Anthony Fitch and Mark Tabor (each with 19 games) and Miriam McClean (with 20), shown below clutching their seasonal floral trophies (a hyacinth). In brief, 4 new tournament faces -one of the great pluses of our social tournaments- and 1 familiar one
Our thanks to everyone for taking part and to Ann in particular for another well-organised tournament.
Our final social tournament in the Winter series is taking place on Sunday, 23rd March.
We look forward to your entries in due course.
