The November 2024 Social Tournament
Despite the anticyclonic gloom -the term used by the Met Office to describe current weather conditions - gloom was the last thing on the minds of the 16 members who came together on Sunday, 3rd November to engage in the November social competition.
It was, however, an ‘unusual’ competition for a ‘mixed doubles’ insofar as men players outweighed women players by 2 to 1, a proportion which worked to the advantage of the women players who all played at least one match with the top ‘seeded’ men players.
In keeping with the established STC tradition of combining good humour with a competitive spirit, participants ‘attacked’ their scheduled tasks with their customary energy and enthusiasm These tasks transported them to a total of 5 matches and a total of 35 games over the two-hour duration of the competition.
It was good to see both new and familiar faces among the highest scoring players: the winners were Nigel Kirkby and Annette Footman-Williams and the runners-up Rafael Soldado and Bridget Findlay.
Congratulations to them and to all the players who took part, some of whom joined the event close to the day of the tournament.
Here are the winners and runners-up with Ann, the tournament organiser, whose pedigree in these events is beyond dispute.
Our next social tournament – and the last this year – is scheduled for Sunday, 15th December.
We hope to see you there!
