On many of the Sunday afternoons from beginning of February until the Easter Holidays, we are running a series of tournaments for Minis, Juniors and Adults on different days. Today, 7th February, ten Juniors took part in the very first of the year.
It would be fair to say that the weather was not ideal for tennis, indeed by the end of the afternoon it was blowing a gale and raining to boot. Undaunted, the juniors all played at least three matches in winds gusting at almost 40 miles per hour, some even got in a fourth match before the weather and the clock finally beat us.
Competitors were divided into two groups and played most/everyone in their group. There was some very good tennis on view throughout the afternoon, the players getting a great deal of credit for putting in such great performances under what could definitely be called trying conditions.
Performances worthy of note were those by Amber and Henry, both finishing their day with three match wins out of three. An extra special mention goes to Will, who not only won three out of three but only dropped three games all afternoon.
Head Coach and Organiser Carole Wilson said after the event that she was 'delighted with the turnout for the first event of the season. The players have all done really well. It was tough out there today. It was striking to observe how much more tactically aware many of the players have become through the winter season. We can certainly look forward to a successful summer if this early form is anything to go by'.
The next Stamford Junior events are Half Term Monday 15th February and Sunday 21st February, both starting at 13:30. There are also Mini and Adult Competitions in the February to Easter Holidays schedule, please look at the Play page on this website.
