Charity Mixed Tennis Tournament April 2025

Girl Guides raise over £400 through Charity Tennis Tournament

Emily Rushmere and Annabelle Aves, both aged 15 from 1st Rayne Girl Guide Group, raised £430 by hosting a fundraising tennis tournament at Stebbing Tennis Club on bank holiday Monday, 21st April.

16 players from Stebbing Tennis Club, of which Annabelle is an active junior member, battled it out in a friendly mixed tennis format, with Andy Tiddiman winning the most points for the men and Sophy Walker for the ladies. Players and supporters enjoyed a delicious BBQ, with meat kindly provided by Steele’s Butchers, in Dunmow. Cakes, home-made gifts and other delicious bakes were on sale to raise additional funds, with all proceeds going towards the girls’ UK Guiding international trip to the Azores this August. Emily and Annabelle were selected to take part in the two-week trip, which will involve volunteering at a tea and pineapple plantation, whale watching and meeting up with a local guide group.  Guides from all over East Anglia applied, and the girls were delighted to be selected.

“We would like to thank all those who supported our event, helping us to raise money for our guiding trip. We really enjoyed the day and have a few more fundraising events planned to reach our target of £2,100 each”
