Strathblane Tennis Club

Coaching

Welcome to new Head Coach, John Wilson

Strathblane Tennis Club says thank you to our long-time head coach Hannah Hislop and welcomes John Wilson as our new Head Coach from February 2026. John has taught at the club in the past. He is a well-known figure in tennis, both locally and across Scotland. We are excited that he has agreed to take tennis at Strathblane to new heights.

We will let John introduce himself in his own words:

Dear Members of Strathblane Tennis Club,

My name is John Wilson, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Head Coach at Strathblane Tennis Club.

I bring over 40 years of experience in tennis as both a player and a coach. As a player, I captained the West of Scotland County team on several occasions and competed in tournaments across Europe. As a coach, I am a Level 4 county coach and have been a Tennis Scotland tutor for the past 16 years.

Most recently, I worked as Racquets Manager at David Lloyd Renfrew, where I oversaw a large programme across nine indoor and six outdoor courts. Prior to this, I held Head Coach roles at Milngavie, Helensburgh, and Craighalden Tennis Clubs, working with players of all ages and abilities, from beginners through to performance level.

Tennis is very much a family passion for me, and I am proud to share that my son, Andrew, is currently part of the Stirling University performance teams and is also coaching at a high level.

I am very much looking forward to becoming part of the Strathblane Tennis Club community. I would also like to acknowledge the excellent work carried out by Hannah and to build positively on the strong foundations already in place. I look forward to meeting members over the coming weeks and supporting the continued development of both junior and senior players within the club.

John's first lessons will on Sunday mornings, from 22 February onwards.
