History of the Club
The fields where the Prestbury Playing Fields are sited were given to the people of the Village of Prestbury as a sports amenity after the First World War by the Delabere/ Cummins family and the three tennis courts were built probably at the same time as the Pavilion, some years later. From the 1940’s the courts were used by the village residents and looked after by Prestbury Parish Council until the 1990’s. They were then allowed to fall into disrepair, the third court was demolished (with the thought that the new road would be going through anyway) and there was a proposal to clear the remaining courts and create a car parking area.
The tennis courts were successfully run by Prestbury Tennis Club between 1997 and 2022. The Parish Council is now running the courts and the courts are open to all, whether you want to join as a member and play or if you just want to book a court occassionally. Any questions please call the Parish Office on 01242 575129.
