Junior Coaching

If you would like individual coaching please contact Paul Rock 07961282347 in the first instance and he will advise the best coach for you.

We have introduced a number of incentives to the programme - for example player of the month.

Junior Group Lessons

Our aim is to coach and teach tennis skills for life, while keeping fit and healthy and having some fun.

Our lessons conform to the LTA Tennismark standards for junior tennis tuition and all of our coaches LTA licensed.

Juniors aged 2+ to 10

Junior’s ages 2+ to 10 years play Mini Tennis, which is designed to allow them to develop tennis skills and play longer rallies in a less challenging environment than a full tennis court.  Rackets are shorter and easier for juniors to handle and the balls have a lower compression, meaning they bounce more slowly.  Mini tennis is played on smaller court areas with lower nets.

Rocky’s Munchkins  - ages 2+/4 years play with Sponge and Mini Red tennis balls on a shortened court and lowered net.   Mini Red balls are 75% slower than a full yellow tennis ball.  At these ages, a strong emphasis is placed on developing co-ordination and balance.

Red - ages 5-8 again play with Red Mini tennis balls.  At these ages players are encouraged to be able to plays rallies as well as a continuing emphasis on co-ordination and balance

Orange - ages 8-9 play with Orange Mini tennis balls on a slightly larger court and a full sized, but slightly lowered net.  Orange balls are 50% slower than a full yellow tennis ball, allowing players to develop a rounded game whilst learning a range of techniques and tactics

Green - age 10 plays with Green mini tennis balls and bigger rackets on a full sized court with a normal height net.  Mini Green balls are 25% slower than a yellow ball. This is the final stage before moving on to full compression yellow balls on a full sized court and helps players develop and improve all aspects of their game.

Juniors aged 11-16

Juniors play with yellow balls on a full sized tennis court and are as far as possible grouped with players of similar ability.

Schools Programme

We have a very productive and active schools programme, with links now to 16 schools.  We take our community responsibilities very seriously and are always keen to increase this, so please contact Paul Rock 07934 118 211 if you are a local school or nursery who would like to run tennis lessons

Schools lessons cost around £5 per student, per session and sessions are run in line with school terms.  While this is very good value, some of the schools that we work with also use their PE and Sports premium allowance to further subsidise our schools lessons.

We typically run after schools or lunch time clubs on school premises.  We also run some sessions, during the school day at the tennis courts and are happy to do this as long as you can provide transport and a teacher presence for the students and a court fee.

We don’t need an area as big as a full sized court to give lessons and can run sessions on a playground or indoors in a hall.  We provide all of the equipment, rackets, balls, temporary line markings and nets.

We are also looking to work with Special Schools - please get in touch if you would like us to work with your school. The children will definitely benefit from the coaching sessions by learning a new skill and having lots of fun.

Schools tennis is run strictly in line with LTA guidance and is run by LTA licensed coaches.

We can also introduce you to LTA Schools Tennis Membership, which allows you to receive tennis related small grants, group Wimbledon Tickets, tennis nets, rackets and balls as well as training for teachers in delivering tennis lessons.

School Holiday Camps

During school holidays our coaches provide fun junior tennis and sports camps.

These sessions include a fun warm up, an emphasis on developing good tennis technique, competition and team games.

To book a place on our school holiday camps please call 07934118211

Elite & Performance Squads

As well as working to increase participation in tennis, within the local community our coaching team are working very hard to raise the standard of tennis in the area.

With our highly qualified coaches, structured tennis programme and driven committee, we pride ourselves in being able to cater for the more advanced player. Any juniors who demonstrate a particular desire to improve will be catered for and will be encouraged to enter tournaments and attend higher level squads programme as they get older. The aim of these ‘elite’ group sessions is to provide our juniors with more tennis per week, hopefully adding to their already extensive tennis schedule consisting of group and individual coaching as well as regular competition.

Starting out in tennis or not touched a racket in years?  Feel a bit daunting to join a tennis club. Why not try out a lesson free of charge with our very highly qualified and friendly coaches, to get you up to speed before you join in with the rest of the club’s activities.

We’re a very friendly club with all ages and abilities, so if you’d like to play tennis but are feeling a bit nervous about it, come and try us out.
