Last week the Ramsey Town Cup, LTA Grade 3 Event, was held on the Mooragh Park Courts.

There was a good entry in the Men’s Events, 12 in the singles and 7 pairs in the doubles. Unfortunately the Ladies events had to be cancelled, due to a lack of entries. The Men’s Doubles was the first event to be played on the Saturday in glorious sunshine. The results were:

In the Men’ Singles the 4 seeded players had a bye to the quarter finals, the first round results were:

The final was a very good match between top seed Marc Chinn and Orry Farnworth the second seed. After a good battle Orry secured the win 6-3 6-1. In thethird/fourth play off Nick bt Andrew 6-1 6-1

In the Consolation Event James bt Eliott 6-4 7-5 before going to lose to Wael 6-3 6-0

The final event was the Mixed Doubles, where it was a draw for partners, although down slightly on numbers, the four pairs were evenly matched. It was played as a round robin, one set against each of the other three pairs. Linda Bates/Hugues Auclerc won all three of their matches to take the title, with Michele Simpson/Jon Gower Jackson as the runners up, having won two matches.

It was good to see entries from other Clubs, hopefully next year more Ladies will enter, so that their events can be played.
