The Isle of Man Men’s Tennis Team, consisting of Orry Farnworth, Adam Pyatt-Coppell, Jack Hedges, Nerijus Gricevicius, Chris Mash, Andrew Maxwell and Sean Drewry, travelled to Aldershot to compete in this years Winter County Cup Event.

Normally there would be 4 Counties per Group, but unfortunately South of Scotland were unable to field a team, leaving the Isle of Man to play Wiltshire and Cornwall over 2 days, this meant all Singles matches were played on the Saturday and all Doubles on the Sunday.

First match for the Isle of Man was Wiltshire, who had a strong team led by Giles Hussey, ranked 458 in the world. Orry Farnworth playing at Number 2 for the Island had a great win against Ben Rogers winning 7-6 6-1, as well as the others played nobody else could secure a win, which meant Wiltshire were up 5-1.

Later on the Saturday the Isle of Man were back on court against Cornwall, Orry had another good win, beating Chris Peters 6-4 6-3, Sean Drewry defeated the Cornish Number 1 Jake Horton 6-1 6-2. Again, the other members of the team played well, winning games in most sets, but Cornwall ended the day 4-2 up after all singles matches were played.

On the Sunday Wiltshire again were in good form, winning 2 out of the 3 Doubles matches, the Isle of Man’s win coming from Orry & Sean against the Wiltshire first pair, Wiltshire were 7-2 winners overall.

Against Cornwall Adam & Jack pushed the Cornish second pair only just losing 3-6 4-6. Orry & Sean  teamed up again to beat Finn Hudson/Will Stirling 6-0 6-2, this meant an overall 6-3 victory for Cornwall.

After a strong weekend of competition, valuable lessons were learned for the team regarding how to reach the next level of their games, with everyone excited to start work on achieving this.
