Frequently Asked Questions about Membership 2024/25
The questions below have been produced to help potential new members with advice and guidance about joining Thistleworth Tennis Club.
How much does it cost to join the club?
A breakdown of normal and discounted costs are detailed below.

During 2024/25 there is a discount of £50 for adult tennis members in their first year. Therefore, the first-year membership fee for a new adult member is £240 (£290 less £50). There is no joining fee to be a member of the club. A first-year discount of £10 is available for Veterans, Students and Juniors.
In addition to this there is a 20% reduction for Family Membership, 2 adults and 1 or more junior living at the same address.
If you are unsure about joining for the whole year, why not try our 3-month Trial Membership. For £50 everyone in your household can be a member.
When does the membership year start and are there any reductions if I join part way through the year?
Yes, there are reductions if you join part way through the year.
The membership year starts from 1st April and runs until the end of March. If you join part way through the year a pro-rata membership fee is available. See the membership application form for a breakdown of the pro-rata fees.
Can I pay my subs monthly?
Yes. You have the option to spread the cost of your annual membership fee over 12 monthly payments. If new members chose this option, the first year’s membership discount is not available. A breakdown of monthly fees is shown below.

Are there any additional costs after I have joined?
No. The only additional cost is if you want to use floodlights, these are £4 for 30 minutes.
When can I use the courts?
Members can use the courts free of charge at any time.
How do I get access to the courts?
Courts can be booked online via the club’s website. Courts can be booked up to 13-days in advance. All new members are informed of the security code to unlock the courts, changing rooms and ball cupboard. These areas are secured with combination locks.
Can I play for one of the club teams?
Yes, we have 4 men’s and 4 ladies’ teams that compete in the Middlesex Tennis Summer League and several teams competing in the Middlesex Tennis winter leagues. Talk to the team captains to arrange a trial. Contact details are on the website.
How can I get some Tennis Coaching?
There are regular adult and junior group coaching sessions available at the weekend. See www.thistleworth.net for the latest coaching news.
Is there a social side to the club?
Yes, we have regular social events, these include dinner & dances, BBQ’s, quiz nights, tennis tournaments and lots more. See www.thistleworth.net for a full list of our social events.
How do I get to know other members?
There is a club WhatsApp group that is used to find partners and arrange matches (approx. 200 members). Additionally, there are mix-in sessions at the weekend and midweek. The coaching programme also provide a good opportunity to meet players of the same age and ability.
What are the opening times of the bar?
The bar is open Monday to Friday from 6pm to 10pm in the winter and 7pm to 11pm in the summer.
What other benefits are there with club membership?
New tennis balls are provided by the club every week. Members get a discount on hall hire charges. Bar prices are cheaper than pub prices.
