This Years Charity

Town Walls Tennis Club is supporting AgeUK (Shrewsbury services) as its charity of the year.
One of the charity’s main concerns is finding new volunteers as numbers have dropped off significantly since COVID. This is a national issue and really affects the services that charities, like AgeUK, can offer to local elderly people in need. Already several Shrewsbury day centres have had to close because of a lack of regular volunteers. There are now long waiting lists for existing services.

Please consider volunteering for this amazing local charity. There are many roles to suit you and it doesn’t have to be an onerous responsibility!

Befriending – visiting an older person at home to provided companionship and fight isolation and loneliness. This usually involves a weekly visit for 1-2 hours.

Telephone Befriending – providing a regular telephone call to older people who would appreciate a friendly chat.

Day Centres - you could help a team of volunteers at one of our Shrewsbury day centres and dementia support groups. This involves attending once a week from roughly 9.30 am to 2 pm.

Day Centre Passenger Assistant - travelling to and from the day centre on the mini bus accompanying members and assisting them from home to centre, and back later on.

Mini bus Drivers – Helping people get to and from the Shrewsbury day centres in AgeUK–owned vehicles. Ideal for those with experience of driving larger vehicles? Training is provided, of course.

Do you have some spare time and would like to help AgeUK? If you’d like to find out more, please have a chat with Jan Deane who is a current volunteer.
