Court Etiquette
Trowbridge Westbourne Tennis Club is a relaxed and progressive club. We have a code of conduct to make things easier for eveyone to enjoy their time at the club.
Players are expected, both on and off the court, to conduct themselves in a way which reflects favourably on the game and their fellow players.
Members must be courteous on court and respect those playing around them.
Make sure that you wear tennis shoes to safeguard against any accidents or injuries on court. Please note - players play at their own risk.
Some common sense guidelines for you:
- Wait until an appropriate pause in play before entering the courts, such as the end of a game or change of ends
- Try not to disturb play on neighbouring courts when you're playing
- Pass balls which stray onto your court, back to the server on the next court at an appropriate time
- When you're serving, call the score after every point and the game score at the end of each game
- Do not hit, kick or throw a racket, ball or other object in anger
- Wait for the first ball to be cleared, and the receiver to be ready, before playing a second serve
- Be scrupulously fair in all line decisions. Players are responsible for calls on their side of the net and should not make decisions or volunteer opinion on calls from the other side of the net
- If you are suprised by a call made by an opponent, simply ask once, "Are you sure?" If the answer is yes, play on
- If you are unsure about making a line call, you can either give the point away or suggest that the point is replayed
Above all - Enjoy your tennis!
