Veryan Men's team keep their winning streak going

The day started off with us looking to the sky and hoping that the rain would stop so we could play. Luckily it stopped raining by 2pm and the courts dried up lovely and we had a lovely evening of tennis despite the wind making the ball move a bit in the air causing some interesting points.

There was a different team then usual today with the players being Luke, Sonny, Simon and Mike Earl. The pairs for this match were Luke and Sonny as the A pair and Mike and Simon as the B pair.

Luke and Sonny’s first match against Wadebridge’s A pair was a nice quick game where we won both sets 6-3. The first set they went out strong and won the first 3 sets before losing one and then rallied again to get the score to 5-1 but them supporters turned up and they lost focus a bit and dropped two sets but then finally managed to serve it out to win their 6th game and the set. The second set started off more evenly with it going with serve all the way to 3-3 but then they found their rhythm and won the next three games to close out the match. In the second match it went a lot slower with more even games, there was a long break between the matches for Luke and Sonny so slowly had to warm up their game again but managed to keep holding serve until 4-4 until they finally managed to break then hold a serve to win the first match 6-4. The second set was a bit quicker but started off going against serve until 2-2 but then Luke held his serve and momentum went their way, and they managed to win the rest of the games for a final score of 6-2.

Despite it being Mike and Simon’s debut match they managed to get off to a start. In the match against the B pair, it started off evenly with the score going 2-2 bit then Wadebridge started to creep away, and the score was 4-2 to them but then mike and Simon rallied and won the next 4 games to win the first set 6-4. Sadly, in the second set Wadebridge kept their heads and found their rhythm and managed to keep the pressure up to win the second set 6-2. This took the match to a 10-point tie break which sadly didn’t go Veryan’s way with the score ending up being 10-4 to Wadebridge. In their second match against the A pair, they couldn’t find a hole to break through despite some good long rallies the final score was 6-1 and 6-0 to Wadebridge. Even though they lost both matches they won a set which was enough to let Veryan take the win.

After a very long and tiring match we were lucky to come back and have some food which consisted of mini pizza’s, bread rounds, brownies and other food which was lovely for an end of tennis meal.

The final score for the match was 7-4 to Veryan keeping the winning streak going and puts us in second place in the league table now.
